Maybe People Will Start Taking Joe Lunardi Seriously...

Featured Replies

The key to this is it's based off his last bracket, once all the auto bids are known, 95% of the at large bids become duh moments, like "Duke is getting an at large bid, DUH!" So while he is good at it, I don't think it's as hard as people make it, if he correctly seeded 60 of the 68 teams on top of getting them all right I'd be impressed.

I've always gave Lunardi props, but if thats all you do for a living then you should be that good. What people don't understand and what you will hear them knock him on is not getting everything exactly right (which would be impossible). What Lunardi does is get the teams who are going to be in the field, as well as usually hitting the top 2 seed lines. People who hate on him usually say well he had so and so playing in this region, but they're in that region, and so on and so on. As far as nailing the teams who are in, he's usually spot on. Only missed a couple in the last few years, pretty impressive.

With that said there are still other Bracketologists out there who are even better, Jerry Palm and Eric Prisbell are pretty good.

Lunardi has to have inside info.

Disagree. If you know the process and what they're looking for it isn't hard to pick the last few teams in the field.

He may know people in the process, but doubt he gets info from them.

He gets paid a big salary to be a "resident bracketologist." Shouldn't he come pretty close every year?

While this may be somewhat true, He is also an administrator at St. Joseph's in Philadelphia. Every now and then on twitter he will refer to having to get back to his 'real job.' That's what he is referring to.

Kudos to him for getting paid doing something he enjoys and is extraordinarily good at!

I had no idea...in that case, I feel sorry for him. I know all about that career path :thumb:

This is getting like everything else in the world. Media driven darlings get the most attention. Miami got screwed along with Virginia and a few others. Indiana or Gonzaga should have been a two seed and Miami a one.

While I see the arguement for Miami, I don't really see it against IU or Gonzaga... You can argue that IU wasn't as excellent at the end of the season as they were at the beginning, but they also play in the Big Ten.

Gonzaga has done everything asked of them. Don't see how they could not be a 1. Quite frankly, I'm surprised they are the 4th number one.

Gonzaga is the main one I was talking about. Miami has done more than they have and played better teams. I think I heard them say that is the first time a team from ACC has won league and Tournament and not been a one seed.

My personal opinion is that Louisville, Gonzaga, Kansas, and Miami should have been the #1s. Simply because they finished first or tied for first in their conference and also won their conference tournaments. I just feel you should be rewarded for having an outstanding season and finishing strong.

It's definitely pretty impressive, but I could honestly do without Joe Lunardi. Makes Selection Sunday less fun for me. I'd said it even last year when Kentucky was the overall #1 seed, so its not just cause the Wildcats were left out.

I've heard Joe is a great guy, humble, approachable, and incredibly well liked in the business.

Nice to see good guys get some positive recognition.

I could see the arguement for this... Tough to leave IU out, but they didn't exactly finish strong.

Kentuckty fans wish there was more truth in this.

It came down to Middle Tennessee and Tennessee. Every bracketologist had at least 67 of 68. The Big Lead's piece on Boise getting in b/c of scheduling Walla Walla over Maryland is pretty interesting. Mountain West teams benefited greatly by playing non Division 1 teams. The committee is a joke...
