Girls Sweet 16 to NKU?

Featured Replies

I believe the contract at Diddle is up in a few years, but there is some chatter that the Bank of Kentucky at NKU will make a pitch for the Girls Sweet 16.

I hope it happens. Would love to see the tourney at the BOK Center.

That'd be pretty cool and would give reason for folks from all over the state to check out NKU.

The city of Bowling Green won't let it go without a good fight.

Personally, I'd love to see it. It would be great for both the university and area businesses.

Based on what I've read in another forum though, those that operate the BOK would really have to step up their efforts in getting fans into the arena in a timely manner. Also, the parking situation on campus could cause some ruffled feathers.

Not only parking but there are only 2 hotels really close to BOK. You can't put all these teams in these 2 hotels.

I'd vote to keep it in BG. Just something about that trip. Great campus, great city! Just my $0.02.

I would like to see it in more of a central location like Lexington or Lousiville. Thats just what I think.

They better handle it better than they did the boys 9th region tournament. The less help they have the more money they make.

I just think you've got to give the western part of the state something. I think the KHSAA is happy with WKU and BG. BTW, I'm not a resident of western Kentucky. I live closer to BOK than I do WKU.

Well they do have the state football championships there, and I believe golf along with girls basketball so they do have some things... I would love to see it at NKU. But I agree, it is a really weird set up to get into the arena. How much does Diddle hold? I'd love to see it also played at Memorial in Lexington.

I considered this for a minute, but it's not really a big deal. Plenty of newer hotels off the Turfway Park exit in Florence, as well as several newer ones right off 471 in Bellevue. Plenty of rooms within 20 minutes (or less) of the arena.

In Lexington, it's not like the boys teams get to stay at the Hyatt. Most are 20 minutes away from Rupp.

Western part of the state already has football and golf as well. BG is a pretty good haul for a lot of the population of the state.

Now that NKU has a arena worthy of hosting such an event, I think they deserve a shot. That said, I think the operators of BOK really need to sell or prove they can handle hosting a major sporting event. Because to this point everything I've heard about the BOK is along the lines of, great facility, run by a horsehockey operation. That's a shame.

I don't think it's that bad. The only issue we had at a sold out event was getting out of the parking garage. That was a concert. It just seems they dropped the ball for the 9th region tourney, and their last mens home game. The facility is top notch. I'd like to see them get a shot at it.
