BOWLING GREEN — Notre Dame outscored Madison Central 5-0 in the last 30 seconds of overtime to pull out a 57-53 victory Thursday in the first round of the Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls' Sweet Sixteen,

The second-rated Pandas (27-5) will play Marshall County, a 56-52 winner over Letcher County Central, in Friday's quarterfinals.

No. 8 Madison Central (29-5) fell four wins shy of matching its Boys' Sweet Sixteen winners of last weekend.

Tied at 49 through regulation, the game see-sawed in overtime.

Central took a 53-52 lead when Brooks made one of two free throws with 50.6 seconds left. But the Pandas went on top with Carlee Clemons' rebound bucket with 30 seconds left.

Sydney Stallman added two free throws with 18.7 seconds left for a 56-53 Notre Dame lead.

Madison Central tried to go to Ashton Feldhaus for a three-point shot, but a double team resulted in a steal by Paige Kellam, who added a free throw with 8.7 seconds left.

Olivia Voskuhl led Notre Dame with 14 points and Kellam had 13. Haylee Smith added 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Feldhaus racked up 26 points and 14 rebounds in defeat, and Larryn Brooks scored 19 points.

The key to Notre Dame's first-half success was a 22-13 domination of the boards, 9-1 on the offensive end. Haylee Smith had 10 rebounds, while Felhaus led the Indians with five.

Both teams struggled from the field in the half. Notre Dame shot 10-for-29 (34.5 percent) to Central's 7-for-22 (31.8 percent).

NDA was up by 14 with 2:03 left in the 3rd. Monumental collapse. . .caused mostly by cold shooting and fouls. NDA is lucky to have pulled this one out, and didn't look good at all in the 4th.

Well, they were playing a Top 10 team with two Division I players on it. Sometimes the other team makes youn look bad. Anyone who didn't think Madison Central wasn't going to make a run is kidding themselves...

Congrats to ND! I really like this team. I think they are primed for a run and this is a big win! Games are supposed to be close at the state championship. No team is going to give up and MC is very good! Survive and advance!

Well . . . by my count, NDA has 3 . . 2 plus at least 1 in the future. Voskuhl (D1 Cle State, but also could have gone D1 for soccer), Ogle is going D1 to LSU for Volleyball but could have easily gone D1 somewhere for basketball, and Sophomore Smith will be D1 for either Basketball or Softball. There's probably more with all of the soccer/basketball crossover on the team.
