June 13, 201313 yr My theory is that Polson always wanted #3, but Terrence Jones got first dibs on it three years ago in exchange for his decommitment from Washington. Polson was fine letting Nerlens play with the #3 because it was extra leverage in luring Noel to UK.

Yes, pampered, as Polson did not "give" him #5. Unless a player wants a new number, that is available, they keep their number until they are done playing.

For the record, Polson isn't the one complaining. But you make an excellent point. He came here as a walk-on & has been given a scholarship the entire time. So he has been handed a free education & good for him to take advantage. Giving up a number for a year seems like something silly to be upset over. If memory serves me right, Ramon Harris gave his number up to Deandre Liggins. So let's not act like this is something new.

I remember this past season people saying how most of the time there are only two players who play with heart, Nerlens and Jarrod. Plus, Jarrod is a Governor's Scholar, if an athletic scholarship wasn't available he would get one for academics.

Imagine it like this: Let's say Randy & SportsGuy play on the same high school team. Randy is a senior, but is basically the 11th or 12th man. SportsGuy is a sophomore but leads the team in scoring at 20 ppg. We're on a road trip and when we get to the locker room to change into our uniforms, SportsGuy realizes he brought his home white instead of the road blue. It's an honest mistake. If you're the coach, do you ask Randy--who is the same size as SportsGuy--to give his uniform to the better player? Or does SportsGuy (and the team) have to pay for his mishap & sit this one out? It's a no-brainer to me.

He is the epitome of what it takes to put on the blue and white. I'm just looking at it from a jersey standpoint. Kid came in as a walk-on, but would fight giving up a number to an incoming All-American? The point I was trying to make is he should be happy with any number, like many Kentucky kids I'm sure he's more than happy just to be a part of the team. Adding to that like you said, not only is he on the team but he actually got quite a bit of PT last year! Who would have ever thought that in the days of, shoooooooooooot everytime he touched the ball? The point I'm making is I doubt he would fret over the number, like many KY kids I'm sure hes cool just being along for the ride. Not saying its right or wrong, traditionally seniority wins out, especially comparing a senior to a frosh. However in this instance, how important can a number be? Especially the number of a former walk on. I mean this isn't Darius Miller or Chuck Hayes we're taking the number away from.
