Haven't followed him closely, how has his performance (on field) been? Has he played like a no 1 pick?

Is there still a transition player tag? Can the Bengals position this to match any deal Smith receives from another team?

 

I am not a big fan but I think the Bengals offensive line was a weakness last year and it will be worse next year without Smith. The Bengals will not win a playoff game without Smith unless they get a solid veteran replacement.

At the time when the Bengals had to decide if they wanted to honor the final two years of his rookie contract, he had very much underachieved and was injured all the time. They basically had no choice but to do what they had to do. However they would be stupid not to play the guy now, because he has been one of the best RT's in football the last two years. He has earned his money.

Let him walk he is fat and out of shape. Run game was horrible and pass blocking wasn't much better. I still can't believe we drafted him I would have rather drafted the starting right tackle for the Vikings that year.

 

The people who do it for a living and see every tackle in the NFL everyweek, and not just the Bengals RT every week say different. He has been rated as one of the best RT's in the league the last two years. Yes he does mess up some, and so we as Bengals fans get to see everyone of those mistakes. However we don't get to see everyone of those mistakes of other teams RT's because we don't get to see everyone of their games.

The biggest problem with Andre is he is way too inconsistent.

 

With that said I'd much rather the Bengals sign him than give the money to Rey M. At least with Andre, the Bengals o-line shich is so bad the last few years, will at least have a player that can actually play at this level....except for the 8 plays a game he has his head up his butt.

And making the pro bowl means what? Willie Anderson was the best RT in football for years and never even got a sniff of the pro bowl until the end of his career. When it comes to lineman especially tackles, once you make it once they basically vote you there every year until you retire it seems like.

 

The people who grade every RT has Andre Smith rated as one of the best, and some of them rated him as the best RT in football.

Agreed he is definitely inconsistent. Which just goes to show that most RT's in football must even be more inconsistent. People who grade every play of every RT has him ranked as one of the best RT's. However since we have to watch the Bengals more than the other teams and notice even more when a Bengal messes up, it just stands out more haha.

 

I am worried about if he did get his big contract if he will still stay motivated in the off season like he has shown the last two years. Or if he will get back to being the lazy guy he was when he first came here. However I think they have to take that chance and pay the man.
