Majority of Americans believe illegal immigrants should be deported

Featured Replies

WASHINGTON — More than half of U.S. citizens believe that most or all of the country's 11 million illegal immigrants should be deported, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Wednesday that highlights the difficulties facing lawmakers trying to reform the U.S. immigration system.

Only 5 percent believe all illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay in the United States legally, and 31 percent want most illegal immigrants to stay.

Count me as yes. Illegal is what it is. Is it illegal to not pay taxes, yes it is and you go to jail. Is it illegal to not register for the draft when you turn 18, yes.

Count me as it's not a black and white issue. Some illegals (children, those who are productive members of society, etc.) should be allowed to stay. I think we need to close our boarders to future illegals, and develop a reasonable, realistic plan for our current illegals. Give those that are self-sufficient time to complete the proper paperwork to become legal, give those that can't afford a 1-2 year period to go through the proper channels, etc. No reason to send those that are working (i.e. tax dollars) away, IMO.

Of course, the majority of Americans are idiots, because they refuse to look at the big picture and consider things such as how much the cost of everything goes up if all that cheap labor left the country.

Yes, you're idiots. Think about it, hard. The cost of produce is the where you should start. Then go from there.

Most of those American idiots voted for Obama so it seems they could care less about price increases on anything... The few cents saved on produce costs because of cheaper labor pales in comparison to the billions in government handouts to the illegals......

There is an even bigger picture. I have family in Southern California. When their children were young, they had to search for a school that didn't spend the majority of the school day teaching children English. The hospitals were overwhelmed with illegals getting free health care in the emergency room, and having babies free of charge in the maternity wards. Yes, they are hard workers and work at a lower wage, but to say they don't cost this country much is being short sighted.

I don't blame them. Anyone who has visited Mexico outside the resorts can see what they are trying to get away from.

I agree with UKMustang. Quite frankly I would rather see them become productive tax paying citizens. They would probably be better Americans than our all American welfare lifers.

Just wondering if you count yourself in that group  Your position, when one steps back, makes no sense. The minimum wage is $7.25 per hour and probably going up if the communists get their way. Nothing cheap about that. So one may say that no one will work for that wage...well they will if we take them off welfare or extended unemployment. Then if the givernment payroll is reduced maybe the deficit will be reduced and taxes on the low end can be eliminated. I would rather give benefits to a low-level wage earner than someone who never was interested in working at all. I have nothing against immigrants, just illegal ones. It is extremely difficult for legitimate immigrants to be given citizenship, and maybe that is what should change.

My plan would be this. Only a blueprint.

1st

Secure the border and I mean secure it so that no one illegal gets in.

2nd

Send all of the illegals we have in jail back to where they belong and if they have family here that is illegal, send them as well.

That way they have no reason to come back.

3rd

Stop giving citizenship to illegals who sneak in here to have a baby so they can get free benefits.

4th

Work with the farmers to determine who the illegals are working in the fields and get them documented and made legal.

5th

Find the rest of the illegals and send them back.

Obviously some should be deported but to deport 11 million??? Think about the logistics of that in addition to the effects of such an action.

Says the guy who is completely ignoring the amount of money being spent on free health care. Your big picture is smaller than mine.....

IMO the first step should be close the borders.

Then tell every illegal that is in the country to identify themselves. If you are a hardworking productive citizen I will give you a clear define path to US citizenship. Not exactly sure what that would be, but it would be something that a hard working honest person could achieve. It would involve being employed, a certain time frame, and not breaking any laws. I'm sure there are other factors, and I don't count speeding or a parking ticket as breaking the law, I'm talking commiting a crime.

If you don't identify youself and I find you - You're gone.

If you commit a crime - You're gone.

If you have already commited a crime - You're gone.

The bolded part I agree with. Obama was elected twice.

Of course the other option is to go into Mexico and clean out all the crime and annex Mexico as the 51st state.
