Majority of Americans believe illegal immigrants should be deported

Featured Replies

We wouldn't need illegals in this country to supply our "cheap labor" if we could get a remarkable number of those sucking the welfare bone dry and get off their asses and work. No link, this one's all me.

Free labor equals prisoners in jail or prison.

They'll either quit, or your cost to get your lawn mowed will go through the roof.

Your point would have a lot more substance if we were facing any type of a labor shortage in this country. Instead, we are facing an unemployment crisis. Of course, to make it worth becoming a laborer, immigration reform would have to go hand in hand with welfare reform.

We do have a labor shortage. It's a shortage of cheap labor, well below minimum wage.

But please, address my point about produce. As I said, the bulk of the produce in your grocery stores is farmed by cheap immigrant labor. If we "deport 'em all," your grocery bill likely doubles since the cost of farming will be passed along to you.

I agree that immigration reform and welfare reform are necessary, but given the inability of our leaders to get past party rhetoric and their corporate donors and actually accomplish something, I'm not optimistic that a change is around the corner in my lifetime.

Cheap and free labor is available, make the inmates do it instead of laying around lifting weights or playing basketball or making arts add crafts.

How can the grocery bill get any higher with produce, it is already sky high. And we have illegals picking the fruit for little to nothing. So I cant buy all into that will cost more, everything cost more due to gas prices too.

I agree with getting useful production out of prisoners. I am not sure I want some of them messing with my food though.

That is simply not true. These large produce coops use illegal labor with illegal wages to increase their profits. The market will determine the price set for produce, and if there is no other option to obtain substance such as dependancy welfare, we will have a very large labor force willing to work in such jobs for minimum wage. The key is, as I stated, illegal immigrant reform needs to mix with welfare reform. You will not have the needed work force if they are subsidized through our tax base to continue not to work. Also, immigrant reform need to include harsh enough penalties to not make it worth crossing the border illegally. Of course, these would have to be very harsh not to make it worth trying to leave Mexico in its current condition. I do know that rewarding people for crossing the border will increase illegal border crossings, which is what we are doing now. I also believe our current administration likes this fact due to the reality that they have been capturing this vast pool of potential new voters through these policies that are hurting our nation. As far as Mexican labor goes, we have been issuing seasonal worker green cards for years. Why not continue that practice, as extra labor is needed, while upholding our current immigration laws with proper punishments?

That is not a bad idea at all. There is no reason why prisoners shouldn't be used as needed labor. They cost us a fortune.

It's all well and good if we say those people are illegal immigrants but what happens the first time we have to explain to a citizen that he's lost his job because we've got prisoners to do his work for free?

Lets not forget the option of making people labor to recieve welfare benefits.

I am not sure how that is different from outsourcing. You have George Clooney go tell them. Gee, do I have to tell you how to do everything?
