Biggest upset in the state this year!!!!

I agree. When you beat at team 71-28 and 51-26, and you can't beat them again, there's something wrong. Who's at fault for this?

Congratulations to Coach West, his staff, and the players. Huge win for their program.

Amazing - that's why you play the games.

I agree as well. I still feel like someone is pulling my leg about the score. What was the atmosphere like?

It's sickening if your a Walton supporter. I'm sure there are other words to describe their pain and frustration with the outcome of this game. It's really unconceivable that they could lay such a big egg!!

Big upset? Yes, but not quite as big as it looks on the surface. Keep in mind that Hearn is a D1 athlete and that Coach West has his team buying in after some early lumps and playing solid defense. WV has never seemed to get into a rhythm after Sandlin's injury, or after her return from injury. WV will lose a ton of talent after this year that has accomplished some great success the last 3 years, congrats to those girls. Also, congrats to Coach West and his team on a good win. Coach Clink will have some rebuilding to do after losing two real good senior classes (2012 and 2013), but he will succeed at the task.

It's called high school basketball. Timing and matchups can disrupt the space/time continuum of high school basketball, especially girls. To assume that a team is 43 points better in December, and will still be 43 points better in late February is to assume that nothing can change, when we all know it can and does.

It's a big upset no matter how you paint it. There is no way Walton should have lost this game. Coach West should be commended for having his team even believe they could win and then go out and pull it off. How can there be such a difference in the two teams since they played a few weeks ago? Did Grant get that much better and Walton regress that much? I guess based on tonight's performances, the answer is "yes".

If I can beat you be 43 in December, I better be able to beat you by 43 in February. If not, then you have worked harder than me and improved your game while I have not gotten any better. It comes down to busting your butt and improving every day.

Congratulations to GC, Coach West and Coach Wright. Outstanding job over the past 3 years or so by this years senior class at WV. What it boils down to -- you have to make shots. If you don't make shots and also miss key free throws.....you're not going to win to many games. I'm not sure what WV shot for the game, but they were below 20% from the field in the first half. Certainly a tough loss for WV but good luck to Coach West and his team against SK and in the 8th Region tournament.

Lack of concentration and focus leads to poor shooting. I think it was apparent the Walton was overlooking Grant.

Wow!!! As the old saying goes: "The king is is dead, long live the king." The only certainty is that a different team will begin a new reign as 8th region champion shortly. WV has had a very good run the last few years and represented the region well. But all good things come to an end.

I'm not a WV local and have not even seen them play this year. But sometimes, more so with girls than with boys, seniors mentally and emotionally divest themselves from their senior year and simply "move on" beyond the season and high school. I'm not saying that I know this is now the case, but it has been the case in several instances that I've witnessed in past years.

What a game. Congrats to Coach West and his staff. They had their kids ready to play and have made huge strides with these young ladies.

Good game plan with solid defense led to a poor shooting performace by Walton's bigs. Billie Hern had a big night. I would say that she possibly had 6 or so blocks.

Molly Clinkenbeard played a very solid game for the Bearcats. Sandlin and Judy were non factors in this game with Judy getting in early foul trouble then picking up her 3rd early in the 3rd qtr. Missed free throws and a late over and back call opened the door for Grant Co.

Walton's shots did just not fall tonight and too many missed layups.

Congrats to Walton Verona on a great run over the last few years. Back to Back Regional Champs, District Champs, All "A" Region Champs, All "A" State Champs. Those girls played theirs butts off and deserve every bit of credit for their accomplishemnts.

Congrats also to Coach Clinkenbeard and Coach Sullivan.....the best coaching combo in the 8th Region.

Let me get this straight. Gallatin led Grant 27-0 en route to a 57-25 victory in Dry Ridge on December 12.

On February 12 the two met in Warsaw with Gallatin winning 57-43. The contest was 6-12 points the entire second half until the last basket. Does that mean Grant worked harder than Gallatin to improve their game and Gallatin has not gotten any better? I think not.

BTW, congrats to Coach West and the Grant County team.
