I guess after the game I was at last night it was simply frustrating. I went to the Conner / Boone Co. game hoping so see a good game and I was not disappointed at all. I sat on Conner's side because I love sitting behind the bench so I can listen to coachs during TO. What can I say I love to learn things from coachs and last nights game between Fookes and Stamm was a great one to go see. On one hand you have a veteran coach who has seen just about everything there is and another coach in Stamm who isnt afraid to try any gimic offense of defense to try and win. Love watching both their teams. Going into the 4th qtr Boone had a slight edge and with Conner dropping back into a zone Boone just held the ball. I heard parent complaining about Boone not playing ball and some really vulger things said to Coach Fookes. How is it her fault that Conner went to a zone? Or how is it her fault that she decided to try and run down some clock? Hows that not playing ball? The way to win a basketball game is to have the more points that your opponent at the end of the game not whoever gets to a certain number first wins. I have come to understand that there is a lack or respect for Fookes and like her or not you have to respect who she is and what she has accomplished. 4th on the all time wins list and 2nd amoung active coach's (yes I took 5 min to look this up before typing it) Show her some respect and show the officials respect. Parents that sit in the stands and cry and complain about every last thing is stupid. Every time your team misses a shot it isnt always a foul. Andy yes your kid does walk occationally or commit a stupid foul. Yes coachs do hold the ball with 4 min left when they have a lead and for the love of GOD yes refs miss things!!!!

I must confess....I can not sit with my wife at any game. She doesn't understand everything about the sport (whichever sport we are watching) yet she has to comment on EVERYTHING lol. Whatever team she is rooting for she's screaming on eevery play that there is holding or passing interference (football) a strike is a ball or a ball is a strike (baseball) travel or a foul (basketball) on the other team no matter what lol.

It's a running joke anymore why especially during football or baseball games I'm either standing or walking the sidelines while she sits in the stands

I guess I just lost my kitchen pass.

Brother, I know where you're coming from. I have one of those as well.

Maybe you guys should teach your women the rules since you seem to know them all! You better hope she doesn't start reading bgp or that's not all you're going to lose!

but if it takes not competing then I would rather my team go down trying as opposed to giving up and telling your players "we have the lead, so let's hold the ball because other wise we will get beat" that is the only message a coach is sending to the players when they hold the ball.

You would get fired in two seasons.

I ran across a dad whose daughter played with my daughter. He was one of those parents who is being discussed on this thread.

He has a second daughter about 8 years younger than daughter #1. He said this time around he sits and enjoys watching the game, no acting as he once did.

Some can change, even if it takes awhile.

Take this simple test. Watch a game that you could care less about. The officiating is usually not too bad. Learn from this. I have been at many games in this situation and some fans are ridiculous.

What is the going rate for officiating a HS game anyway

I really do think there is a lot revealed in this example. Sometimes it is just a matter of experience. The more games you have sat through, the less you seem to get excited about. I am talking over years, not one season. Instead of being an idiot all the time, it is only every now and then. You begin to understand how refs call games and why certain calls are made. This keeps you from getting angry at everything. I have seen this progress in myself as I have been to a ton of ball games over the last 9 years and learned a bunch. I think like a lot of things, education and experience make a big difference. Of course there will always be those who are not very teachable.

90% of all fans that are yelling will react and feed off of their own coach and bench. :thumb:

Don't know if you're taking a shot or being funny, I'll go with funny.

Anyway, tried teaching the better half the rules, terms, etc., she just got them mixed up with wrong sports. She still enjoys going though. Since my son is now coaching, she had been going to a few of his games and just when I think she's beginning to understand what is going on, she wanted to know "what inning we were in" at the football game. It's all good, I do get a kick out of it.

I have never seen Coach Richey yell at the other teams coach....but I have seen...

Every parent & spectator at a game will at some point bash the refs...easy target!! If you're not happy with what you see then get out there on the floor & join them!! Refs get paid good money to run up & down the floor and occasionally blow a whistle. It's by far not the easiest job in the world but after being a parent spectator for years, I can say I have a strong respect for the officials both good & bad ones!!!

other teams coach yell at fans...:ohbrother:

What about parents in the stands getting on other kids of their own team? I have seen and heard this over the years and can't believe it. You can say what u want to your own kid, but when you start calling out other kids on your own team, I think it's a recipe for disaster.

Yeah.....that is not a good way to help your kid at all......UGH!!!!!!!
