No need to ask RCC9 this because this does not happen at Highlands, sorry, go fishing somewhere else.

I ask RC a question and I'm fishing? Not fishing for anything. I've seen it over the last 23 years and it seems to have gotten worse the last 4 years or so. I've seen it and I've heard it! Hell maybe I'm the one that needs counseling because it seems to be accepted today. Sign me up!

I did a very unscientific poll last night of the crowd's ability to accurately call a travel call. 10% at best.

Last night, I did a very unscientific poll of the referee's ability to call a travel (and block/charge) with an official evaluator sitting next to me, and we thought it was 10% at best! And you want to know why coaches, parents and players (who put a lot more time in their effort than an official does to get better) get upset. I'm not condoning it, but I understand it.

RCC9, I'm curious to how u would handle a parent in the stands from your daughters team that heckled her the entire game, every game? Then after the game made comments to her about how bad she played? From old softball days I'm pretty sure I know how u would respond. Lol

Sound like you know me! Well, I have aged (matured, grown up, whatever) a little since then. However, you are talking about my baby and if you are negatively addressing her directly as another fan, parent on our team or even a coach, I would absolutely step in and probably be in trouble if they kept it up. It's my job to protect my kids and no one will tell me different. Period! What I have learned though is to not jump so quick and let things play out a little before I overreact. But you're right, if I do sit back and determine that they are attacking my child verbally, something would be done! I would try to handle it correctly first, but it would depend on how cooperative the other person was. Just the way I am.

With all that said, I agree with other posters. I don't see a kid getting yelled at too much...in a negative way. You do see it occasionally, but not too much. If I saw it directed at ANY kid (whether it was mine or not), I probably couldn't stop myself from saying something. Especially if it's a kid on the team I root for. And Sweeperboy is right, I don't see it at HHS, unless it's a visiting fan...at least in my experiences so far. I look at it as mine and everyone's duty to "police" the level of negativity a kid should have to put up with. It's the same if an old lady is walking down the street and an idiot takes her purse. What do you do? I would act on it! Others may not.

What you said was exactly what I been trying to say. I wasn't fishing for anything. I took advantage of the free trial period on here and this thread hit a sore spot with me as I have seen it happen to many girls over the last 10 years. I do know u rather well and I'll see u tonight at basketball. Your team practices after mine. Wink wink.

Got it!!!!!

There are some teams I will not watch because the parent yell the whole game from freshman level to varsity.

You get a line and I'll get a pole, honey

You get a line and I'll get a pole, babe

You get a line and I'll get a pole

And we'll go down to that crawdad hole

Honey, baby mine.

You ever notice that the ones that like to yell the whole game always sit in the back row of bleachers and YELL their loudest over everyone one????? Never understood that.

Was at a grade school wrestling match this weekend saw a parent (Dad) walk out on to the mat and picked the kid up off his son set him aside and picked up his son and walked off with him???

I'm heading out soon to officiate the KY Special Olympics tourney. It reminds me of a story that fits this thread.

For those that haven't seen Special Olympics ball you get a really wide range of players. You might have a 13 yr old girl guarding a 50-yr-old man and the girl is much better. You might have 60-yr-old woman on the floor and a big 19-yr-old boy who isn't bad. So you officiate it differently. You remember the reason for the event and you remember this isn't high school ball so you let a LOT of stuff go.

So, it's halftime or maybe the start of the 4th qtr and I'm standing in front of the fans waiting for the teams to break their huddle and start play. A 25-yr-old guy comes out of the stands carrying a scorebook and he's coming my way. I think he's going to ask a question. Nope. His sole purpose of coming to me was to complain about the foul discrepancy. Says his team is getting homered.

The way you describe the match ups people may think it doesn't matter, but to the participants and their families these are very "SPECIAL" games. Hope you had a good explanation for the young scorekeeper.

Clyde, I'm saying its the school administrators job to control the parents if they act like idiots in the crowd. If the parents confront a coach during or after a game and get personal and attack the coaches character and the administration allows it to happen then coach has to do something. Can't let the inmates run the asylum. I've seen coaches cut kids at tryouts because their parents are idiots and will flat out kill team chemistry.

As I'm reading this thread and come across this post, I have to laugh because the one HS game I can remember this year where a parent was obnoxiously vocal towards the refs, and didn't know when to shut up (and was so annoying, I had to move to another seat to get away from them)...... well it turns out the annoying parent was a school administrator, as a matter of fact, that parent was the schools AD. So I guess the inmate was running the asylum. lol
