February 7, 201313 yr I'll be the first to admit that I don't know if I've ever heard any name for this school more than a couple times. The Louisville Bubble will do that to a guy. But there's something very cool about the name "Ashland Blazer" that doesn't really hold with just "Ashland."

Do people from Louisville Male care when people ask why they have "H" on their uniforms (at least .. they used to in track). I used to love seeing letter jackets at Holmes ... who cares if they can't figure out why they use a "Wishbone" C ....

February 7, 201313 yr How many schools in the world DON'T have a clear location given by their name? I'd guess that probably 90% or more of the Catholic school in the state don't give their name. Fair enough...but to an outsider who doesn't know Louisville's geography that well (me), they don't mean a whole lot of anything.
February 9, 201313 yr Always has been and always will be Ashland Paul Blazer. We could rename the Kenton Co schools- Taylor Mill HS, Independence HS and Erlanger HS. We'd then have to explain to everyone where TM, Indy and Erlanger were. Same issue in a different form. Boone County would be worse and Louisville would be a nightmare.
February 9, 201313 yr Since I was on a team that played in the AIT back in 1967, I knew the school as Ashland Paul Blazer and when CovCath played them last year in Ashland in football, I still called it Ashland Paul Blazer, while most of the kids just said Ashland! The thing i remember most about playing in the AIT in 1967 was the swimming pool that they had....I mean in 1967 that was just something to you just didn't see, a indoor pool on a High School campus. Heck even today the only HS with a pool in NKy is Scott HS.
February 10, 201313 yr Seems kind of silly to me. For whatever reason they saw fit to name the school after someone. Regardless of intention it seems like a bit of a slap to the person the school was named after.
