Have reviewed site for several years, watched kids come and go from different schools, etc...this one did not have to occur if a kid was given the opportunity as he was told he would have.

Anyone close to this situation knows there is more to this story than your "free" advice! I do not know about Jimmy P's toughness but do know he talks out of both sides of his mouth to kids, etc. It isn't about being a tough coach, it is about a coach getting the most out of his kids by being up front and honest with kids, providing constructive criticism when needed/teachable moment, and also building them back up. This does not occur with the outsiders on the "Hill" in the basketball program.

 

I will have to politely DISAGREE with this. Jimmy is one of the most respected former players/coaches in this area, knows the game as well as most. If a player is going to help the NewCath program achieve success it doesn't matter where he comes from. The Weyer kid is a so-called "outsider"!! Agree 100% with Clyde's assessment.

 

I think Jason could have helped the Breds out the next two years had he stuck it out. I wish the young man luck in the future.

Local meaning legacy! Look at the rosters over the past few years, how many kids continue to play basketball after freshman year that have zero ties(parent, brother, sister, coach parent, etc)to NewCath. Covington played with 3 NewCath kids all summer in AAU, NewCath coaches watched, and your saying he was not better than any of the 5 starters on JV? Come on Clyde!

 

His skill set is not as good as many have claimed. Add in that he's prone to pouting and not hustling when he gets frustrated and it's an easy call. Bench.

BINGO!!! Saw this happen more than a handful of times. There is nothing wrong with getting frustrated on the floor however, how one chooses to display it, makes all the difference.

Highlands just doesn't have a whole lot of material to work with. They battled and played hard and had a few bright spots, but they just don't have a enough players. If you dont have a team that shoots well, you are better off running some form of passing game that gets you high percentage shots.

 

The offense that Flynn was running utilized a lot of flex cuts and they did get a few opportunities at cheap baskets but many times the players mishandled the ball or missed some cheapies.

On defense it looked to be more of a sagging man to man in which all defenders had a foot in the paint, unless their man had the ball. Pretty good plan if you want to stop penetration.

 

Flynn has had a fair amount of success everywhere he has been with the exception probably of Bourbon County, but he wasn't there very long. I believe Highlands was down a couple of players, but overall, they just do not have a whole lot of basketball talent.

 

The pregame ceremony was really nice. The anthem was done by Eric Riley, who is a member of the Brotherhood Singers which sings all over the world. The group itself has done the anthem at the Bengals, Reds, UC, Xavier and most recently they sang the anthem before the Syracuse/Louisville game a couple weeks back. They are really good.

 

A really solid turnout considering the weather. I would imagine next weeks game against NCC will bring another solid crowd.

So please tell me if he was given an opportunity for a good education? Or did he go to NCC specifically because he was promised a starting spot on a Very good ball club?

Honestly and truthfully, there should be a rule on BGP's that a Father/Mother/Uncle/Aunt can't post about their kids on-line! :idunno::lol:

We adults need to be careful what we say about these young men. Clyde, you care to share your high school resume so we can judge? So we can tell you you never lived up to your potential? You can have your opinion on his skills, however lets leave out the childish comment like "pouting and not hustling". I am 100% sure you were not at all the NCC practices and have no idea of the details of the situation.

 

Jason can be a solid basketball player and will. Why don't we spread more positives so when young Mr Covington reads this blog he starts to restore his confidence.

Weyer is no outsider his Grandfather played at NCC. The parents let him pick.

NCC is like Highland in Football they don't have to recruit.

I disagree, as Long as you dont make yourself appear as a buffoon it is Fine. I call a spade a spade, if my Boy isnt hustling or stinks up the floor tgen ill admit it and not lay blame on other things. I certainly wobt blow Smoke about him either.

 

The thing is here, the kids read this stuff so regardless who is right or wrong with Potter, ITA really none of Our business. Adults need to be careful about calling kids out on here.

 

As far as Jimmy P not giving him a Fair shake, I have a hard time believing that.
