The thing is here, the kids read this stuff so regardless who is right or wrong with Potter, ITA really none of Our business. Adults need to be careful about calling kids out on here.

I don't think anyone is "calling them out"!!! EVERYONE needs to realize the vast majority who post the "GOOD & BAD" about these athletes, me included, are giving their HONEST opinion, and are in NO WAY trying to diminish (to lessen the authority, dignity, or reputation of: belittle) any of these athletes. I think if we are going to sing their praises when they do well, then there should be no problem pointing out the opposite. If we can only post the good and what makes everyone feel warm and fussy, I feel we have resorted to the "everyone gets a trophy" mentality. I don't think anyone on BGP has it out for any high school athlete, I certainly don't.

 

I agree with Q, come softball season if my daughter "stinks it up", I will not hold back on letting it be known, nor would I have a problem if anyone else pointed it out.

We adults need to be careful what we say about these young men. Clyde, you care to share your high school resume so we can judge? So we can tell you you never lived up to your potential? You can have your opinion on his skills, however lets leave out the childish comment like "pouting and not hustling". I am 100% sure you were not at all the NCC practices and have no idea of the details of the situation.

 

Jason can be a solid basketball player and will. Why don't we spread more positives so when young Mr Covington reads this blog he starts to restore his confidence.

My critique is purely related to basketball. What you call a childish comment is what everyone sees. It can be corrected and should be if he wants to live up to HIS potential.

Kid has some talent . It's mainly attitude and effort.

You are implying coaches do not make mistakes but 1% of the time...I have to disagree with you on this one as well. Watching many years whether it be girls or boys basketball, as we are discussing, many things come into play with kids getting more minutes than others, etc. As stated earlier, your words...Covington is not a "local" on the "Hill", Covington showed his emotions, due to the fact that "locals" were making the same mistakes that he was making and they continued to play and not immediately get pulled from the games. Kids/players are not as blind as coaches seem to truly think they are, the kids know who is related to each other, what kids parents are coaches, etc...these kids continue to play through mistakes, Covington kid is pulled and reacts due to frustrations....right or wrong, in some programs the writing is on the wall with what is truly happening and has for years. Did Covington over react at times, sure he did, do other kids on the hill pout/over react, walk off the floor when subbed for, sure they do and they continue to get their minutes...Is that because of talent, one will continue to question that! The Covington kid, Jason, is one incident that has come to the forefront, this continues to happen at all levels and sports. Relatives that coach in grades 9-12 is never a good situation for the kin or the "outsiders"...Jason will grow from this situation and we are hopeful to see him in a Bulldog uniform soon.

NCC is like Highland in Football they don't have to recruit.

Well when is the last time Highlands beat NCC Basketball, Baseball, Softball, VB, Just sayin, I agree Highlands has a great Football program one of the best, So you can say a School that has 195 Kids to 860 has a great Basketball program. Go ahead you can do it.

I wish Jason all the best. At some point in time the academic part of high school has to be a priority. All the transferring takes a toll on that; hope it is minimal for him.

This whole relatives/coaches discussion is absurd. Relatives that coach in grades 9-12 has nothing to do with kids who play or dont play at the JV or Varsity levels. Kids at NCC earn their playing time from practices and attitudes. There are a couple of players this year who transferred or havent played as much as "they or their parents" think they should. Parents only hear one side of the story and most of the time dont know 85% of the real story. Everyone hopes to see Jason back in a uniform somewhere. NCC thrives on discipline players who know the system and play good solid defense. Every school isnt a good fit for everyone and this situation was proof of that. To assume that kids play because of their parents involvement is stupid. So i guess what you are saying is Zack Pangallo starts point guard as a sophomore because his Uncle Jimmy is on the staff. That's funny! This thread falls into the old saying, "You get what you deserve". Kids who have good attitudes and work hard get rewarded. No player in NCC's program works harder than Seth Freppon and thankfully he was given the opportunity to move up to varsity because he damn sure deserved it.
