PurplePride92 Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 ----------RANKINGS---------- 1. Wayne County 2. Pulaski County 3. Southwestern 4. West Jessamine 5. Boyle County 6. East Jessamine 7. Somerset 8. Mercer County 9. Lincoln County 10. Danville ----------Random Thoughts---------- ***Wayne County, Pulaski County, West Jessamine and Boyle County are all undefeated in district play and West Jessamine and Boyle County have locked up the #1 seed in their district tournaments. Pulaski County plays Somerset on February 12 with a chance to secure the #1 seed then. Wayne County and Southwestern meet on February 6 and that will be Wayne County's opportunity to lock up the #1 seed. ***Boyle County is 9-2 since December 29 including two victories over Lincoln County and a victory over Madison Southern. Those two losses were to Woodford County(who they have defeated once this season) and West Jessamine. ***At 19-6 East Jessamine currently has more wins than anyone in the 12th Region. They have won 14 of their last 17 games including victories over Woodford County, 12th Region #1 team Wayne County, Madison Southern and Mercer County. They have had losses to Central, Southwestern and West Jessamine. They look for revenge on West Jessamine on February 1. East Jessamine currently is on a 7 game winning streak. ***Southwestern's recent victory over West Jessamine established them as the 3rd best team in the 12th Region behind Wayne County and Pulaski County. They should still be a dangerous team in region tourney play even though they have yet to defeat Pulaski County or Wayne County. They play Wayne County on February 6 and Pulaski County on February 8. ***Pulaski County's Taylor Gover recently passed the 2000 point mark and became the all time leading scorer at Pulaski County. Gover also has a chance to record 600 assists as well. Gover has also been nominated to play in the McDonald's All American game. Read more about it here: http://bluegrasspreps.com/ky-boys-basketball/taylor-gover-passes-249072.html ----------Players of Note---------- ***The Big 3 at Pulaski are playing phenomenonal ball of late. Taylor Gover is averaging 24.8 points a game, Kody Johnson is at 15.4 and Tyler Goins is at 14.6. Gover and Goins are both shooting over 50% from the field and Johnson is at 45%. Goins is hauling down 8.1 rebs/game and Johnson is at 5.3rebs/game. ***Chase Fain of West Jessamine is having a year to remember. He is giving Taylor Gover a run for 12th Region Player of the Year by averaging 19pts/game, shooting 56% from the field, 47.9% from three, 80% from the FT line while averaging 8.5 rebs/game. ***Brett Jones is continuing his solid season for Boyle County while averaging 15.8 points a game and shooting 87.9% from the FT line, 36.8% from three and is the team leader in assists as well. ***Will Hager has emerged as a team leader for Mercer County as a freshman. He is the team's leading scorer at 13.6 points a game and has some recent 20 point outings to boost his high school resume. ***Trey Blevins of Wayne County has been on a tear lately. Before his 0-7 outing from three against Monticello the freshman was 10-16 from deep against Clinton County, Rockcastle County and Pulaski County. Blevins, along with other freshman Corey Stearns and sophomore Peyton Woods are all still performing at a high level as unit and look to equal or surpass the success the current Big 3 at Pulaski County has had in high school. ----------Shout Outs---------- Russell Sims-Mercer County Hagen Tyler-Boyle County Daulton Peters-West Jessamine Ronnie Carson-East Jessamine Jacob Conway-Lincoln County Tyson Williams-Somerset Alex Beckerson-Burgin David Kapinga-Southwestern Justin Edwards-Southwestern Christian Gateskill-Fuqua-Danville McCreary Central Burgin Coach Steve Adams-Boyle County-still the best dressed coach in the 12th Region. And again, special shout out to all the teams who report their stats. :thumb::thumb:
AverageJoesGym Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Nice writeup. I'd slide Boyle County down to 6th and move East Jessamine up a notch. Boyle County's 9-2 record since December 29th includes a one point win over 5-19 Western Hills, a pair of six point wins over 3-18 Garrard County, a twenty point home win over 10-12 Marion County, two wins over 10-13 Lincoln County, a seven point win over 7-13 Danville and a seventeen point win over 6-15 Whitefield Academy. The only team with a winning record that they have beaten in that stretch is Madison Southern. I think East Jessamine's recent streak is much more impressive than Boyle's with wins over Madison Southern, Wayne County and Mercer County.

Boyle beat East head to head and for recent similar opponents East lost to West by 35. Boyle lost to West by 15. Other similar opponents.....Boyle also defeated Lincoln twice by double digits. East beat them by 1 point. Boyle and East have both defeated Woodford County. East does have that big win over Wayne County but I had Boyle above East at the last ranking and West Jessamine ended Boyle's 8 game winning streak on Tuesday. I was at the second half of that game and it didn't move me enough to want to put East ahead of Boyle. I still feel like Boyle would defeat East if they played right now.
cellking Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 Nice write-up. Pulaski beating Somerset 5 at PC. Proves to me what I've said all year, the Regional is wide open and will be one of the best in the State to watch. All 8 teams that make the Regional will have a Shot to Win it.

I wish I had access to more info and stats. I'd love to know more about East Jessamine and Southwestern but finding info about them has been harder than I imagined it would be. I do agree. I do think the top 3 are the best teams in the region but it has been proven that they are beatable.
Bengal Maniac Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I haven't seen a team play in the 12th, but thought Pulaski was the best from what I've read. So I would have to defer to you on this one PP92. Who won the Wayne/Pulaski game/s? I thought Pulaski's effort against Bullitt East was impressive. I know you've seen a lot of them play, if not all, not critcal, just curious. What separates the two.

BUt that's the problem getting an effort like that every game. With that said, these guys have fail short for 3 years now and this is there last chance and think this is the year they get it done. . Wayne is a tough place to play. On a neutral site, I give the edge to Pulaski espc with the added experience. I think the regional draw will play a big factor as well. Will be interesting to see who gets the loser of SW/Wayne and Somerset/Pulaski and if there's any upsets in those districts. I can't see Somerset beating Pulaski. Can't imagine them playing any worse than they did in the first meeting.
2-3-Zone Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Good post PP92. I've thought this Pulaski Co team has had enough talent the last two seasons to win the 12th, seem to fall short in the postseason each year. I know they have lost to Wayne Co already and a close win over somerset but I can't see anyone stopping the 3 headed monster (Gover,Johnson,Goins) from achieving to their goal of Rupp in their final attempt.
Wireman Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Good stuff PP92. I'll take Southwestern to win the 12th Region in a few weeks.

With that being said there are several teams in Region that can knock them off, on a given night. This is what makes Tourney Time so much fun. I don't think Pulaski played as well as they could have in 1st meting with Somerset, but Somerset did not play as well as the can either. Pulaski has a weakness in inside Game, that is Somerset's Strenth. When the time comes, ( I'd go with the size) if they meet in Regional it would be in Finals. Hope that happens!!
hoops5 Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Very nice, PP92! I like your style. Shout-outs are cool!
Randy Parker Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Who did Gover pass on the all-time list?
Ole Kentuckian Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Pulaski is the natural choice. They have three bona fide players and a ton of experience. Southwest hasn't played as well I thought they would, but will endanger other's chance in the Region. Wayne is the surprise as I didn't feel that they'd do this well this quickly (too young & inexperienced). Both E & W Jessamine are threats also. Bottom line seems to be that the Regional draw and matchups will have a lot to say about who might win. How two teams matchup against each matters and where one may excel against one team, they may struggle against another. I agree that it is wide open, but would lean towards favoring PC strictly due to experience. However, officiating will also play a part because the ability of some teams to make use of their defense will depend on what the out of region officials call/don't call.

Somerset lacks the guard play in my eyes. Dishman can get hot and hurt you but the other two aren't the best shooters. Also they have a clashing style of play, the guards would prefer a faster pace to be successful while the bigs need the half court game as they struggle to keep pace in a faster style.
