Holmes 77 Scott 52

Why aren't they going to be a great defensive team? It's easier to be a good defensive team than offensive.

Beg to differ!

No, you really probably don't.

Very true, but the way they have been playing the past two weeks, they won't be able to beat a Campbell County to make it to the districts finals.

Should be an interesting match up this Thursday. Early district preview....

Good to see Holmes got everyone healthy and unsuspended just in time for Scott and CovCath!! :D

:sssh:

I never expected (nor would I prefer) anything less, especially regarding the latter contest. :D :bunny:

Scott is not fast enough to be a great defensive team.

Where do you get that defense is harder than offense?

Lets not forget that Scott has played 2 great teams back to back. Both are at the tops of their regions. Scotts problem is at both ends right now. Scott at times has trouble breaking the press and when they can't press they can slack defensivly in the half-court. I agree with Tiger that they need to open up the offense, but in the games they were winning the press set up 10-12 points a game and they lose that when they can't press.

Scott shouldn't be pressing nearly as much as they do right now. They lack the team speed and depth to do it efficiently. Offensively, when the ball goes in to Howard, he does a nice job of passing out of the double and triple teams he's been seeing as of late. Getting the perimeter players to remain active and not spectate is the main issue here.

They haven't been pressing as of late. At least against Brossart or Holmes and they have been Crushed.

They pressed in both games. In fact, they pressed almost the entire second half against Brossart.

I will agree with you about that they should not be pressing as much, but Howard is still forcing his shots against double & triple teams too much. He needs to recognize the double & triple teams and pass it out quickly to his perimeter players. The other players stand around a lot for various reasons and it is not always their fault.

Defense is a much easier tool to be taught than offense.

Really? One is natural while the other requires thinking and hard work. I'd say offense is easier to teach.

I think offense take alot more natural ability. Its according to what style you want to play. But in my mind a coach with a good defensive plan, can keep an average offensive team in any game.

And any team for that matter that has the talent to be a great offensive team, also has the talent to do so on defense, they just need their coach to instill the right plan.

You are 100% correct. :thumb:

Sure its easy to teach if you have the natural ability. But you can't teach natural ability. Defense can be taught, a kid can learn in a much shorter time span on how to be a good defender. A kid can't learn in a short time how to shoot the ball alot better and what not.

I've noticed in just coaching middle school aged kids, its much easier for a player to become a good defensive player. Offense takes much more time and requires ability you can't teach.
