Howard kicked it back out to Whitehead in the first half for 2 three-pointers and he hit Quigley twice on a couple of nice cuts to the basket. That's 4 times just off the top head right there. He really shouldn't be giving it up too much more than that because he gets to the free throw liine so well.

So you are saying that Howard shouldn't be giving it up no more than 4-6 times a game? If this happens like you said, then Scott won't win no more than 3 games the rest of the year.

Let me say this one time, Howard is not going to carry Scott, no how, no way, period. To expect this from Howard would not be fair to him or to his other teammates. There are other capable players on this team, just not one guy.

The true test the rest of the year will be for the coaches to get the other players involved in the game, not watching it.

I found this interesting little nugget on the BGP scoreboard page:

As of 1/24/06 Scott leads the 10th region with 1176 pts scored. (Pendleton Co. is 2nd with 1161).

On the other hand, Scott is 2nd to last in in total points allowed with 1049. (Augusta is last with 1074)

Your honor, the defense rests. :fire:

What teams has Scott scored a lot of points on? When you answer that, then let's talk about their offense.

I agree. With that said howard has to be the main piece. Where Howard goes Scott will go. Un rare nights that Howard has a bad game, everyone else will have to step there game up for them to win. There is not one other eagle you could say that about. So in that aspect he kind of does have to carry Scott. But everyone will have to play well for the eagles to get where they want to go.

There's a nice stereotype...

Like you ever played any "D" porter?? :D

The eagles will be ready to play thrusday, though i heard a couple of the starting guards will not be playin. I will not say the names until i am verified but at the im pretty sure they will be playing with out 2 of the usuals.

If this is true, then Scott will lose Thursdays game by double digits, guaranteed.

Who else on that team is talented enough to do it, then? How many games has Scott won on one of Kyle's "off" nights? I don't see anything wrong the inside/out offense that Scott has been running...... some of the guards just need to take care of the ball a little better and make the defense respect them a little more to take some of the pressure off of Howard.

Then why are there so many poor defensive teams??

Effort. Bottom line and the amount of time coaches teach defense.

Teams like Holmes will still practice defense but they want to run you out of the gym so the coach put an emphasis on that.

But teams like say Holy Cross, NCC, or Bishop Brossart during the Willie era.

Those programs are usually not overly talented (except recently at BB), but all those schools are known for great defense because of the style put in place by their coaches.

Being great friends with kids who played in NCC program and playing in the HC program, and after talking ot kids at other programs. You would be surprised in the difference in the amount of time focused on defense. I'm talking 3 on 3 drills, half court drills, all type of drills broken down in segments of the court.

That is why lesser talented teams seem to compete.

Scott is not fast enough to be a great defensive team.

Where do you get that defense is harder than offense?

I said being a good defensive team was easier than offensive. You're the one that said Scott had to "open up" the offense, beat people off the dribble etc.

My question to you is, if they are not fast enough to be a great defensive team, why in the wide world of sports would you want them to employ a beat someone off the dribble offense?

The ball tends to slow kids down, and if they aren't fast to begin with how would they ever gain an advantage?

I like the inside/out offense too, but your big man must recognize double & triple teams for it to be effective and that is not happening with this team.

As a whole they are not fast enough to play a man to man defense all the time, but they do have some players that are capable of taking their man off the dribble.

scott needs to not lose sight of what is important, making the regional tourney. Stay together as a team and they will be fine. :thumb:

He said he gave up just those were the ones he could think of. I'm sure that he meant it as he kicked the ball out. Those were just some of the times they got results.

Scott will be fine.

Who are you referring to? Scott has some nice shooters, when they are set, but they've had plenty of opportunities to prove that taking people off the dribble and finishing would be more effective than what they're doing now. I just don't see it from this group. I thought the Eagles could have given Holmes a better game than they did the other night, but they looked a little intimidated and more timid than what I've seen in other games this year.

There's a nice stereotype...

Let me put it this way.....the ones who are gifted with the size, speed, and athleticism generally will focus on their offense more than their defense. Of course there are exceptions.
