I was at the game, have watched the video, and looked at multiple pictures of the event and if you were not there to see how physical the game was....it is very hard to make a judgement. This is not the first fight or aggressive behavior in high school basketball. Yes, it is very disappointing that it escalates to that point but there is often emotions firing and players are "fighting" hard to give 110% to their team. They are high school kids and not adults so it has to be a learning process of development and maturity. If other schools or coaches make a judgement about these teams for one altercation, that is plain wrong. It was a good game with both teams playing hard! It is unfortunate that the main focus has been the fight incident.

Disappointed in the whole situation and disappointed that it came to this. I really think a whistle and a double foul would have done the trick.

Label? I disagree. Two teams got in a fight. The vast majority of people look at this as interesting but not defining.

I watched most of the game. There were a lot of incidents leading up to the fight. The officials have to get the game under control early or it eventually leads to something like this. There were 3-4 hard fouls just before the fight broke out. The fight was ugly but I could only see two punches thrown, both by CovCath. I'm sure there was more going on on the bottom of that pile though.

He honestly appeared to be trying to do the right thing. He was racing out to break it up before it got really ugly. I'm assuming the rule says he has to stay on the bench.

It's unfortunate that the fight occurred, but I have seen much worse over the years. Let's not confuse what happened in this game for some type of "uncontrollable" bench clearing brawl. From watching the video, I thought both team's coaches did a good job of keeping Bench players from being a factor. Did some of those kids technically leave the bench area...yes, but both coaches kept them from getting into the scrum.

 

The punishments fit the offense, both teams will learn from it and realize you have to control your emotions or pay the consequences. Sports teach many lessons hopefully all involved learned the lesson and will grow and move on to have success the remainder of the season.

From earlier posts in this thread, the CCH assistant was tossed because he had a technical from earlier in the game and then made comments to the ref while out on the floor after breaking up the altercation. He wasn't tossed just because he ran on the floor. And that is why none of the other coaches were tossed out. None of the other coaches had a T and made comments that led to a second T.

I wasn't there but it's my understanding that the CCH assistant may have said something to an official and that's what got him tossed.

I agree with those who say this is nothing, it's no big deal, and happens all the time! Unfortunate incident, but no big deal, game is over, move on.

It doesn't get to this level all the time. This maybe happens once or twice an entire season. I've been to hundreds of games the last few years and I've never seen this level of altercation at the high school level.

It is less frequent than it used to be. I've seen some hellaciuos altercations through the years.

Most of the players and all of the coaches worked to stop the altercation. It wasn't an all in brawl by any stretch of the imagination.
