January 17, 201313 yr I was stunned to learn that the ATF has had no director for 6 years and it's being manned part-time by the attorney general of Minnesota. The Senate has not confirmed anyone for this position over those 6 years. Apparently Congressman Tiahrt from KS gutted the ability of the ATF to do its job 10 years ago when added language to a spending bill. This is the same congressman who said that city mayors should not worry about tracking illegal guns because we have the ATF - the ATF that hasn't increased the number of agents in years. Yes, he did say that the NRA approved his language added to the spending bill. Yes, that's the same NRA that says all we need to do is enforce existing laws. How? With whom? January 17, 201313 yr 18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers. RM you said in another thread you were 100% against this, but in this thread you thought the Presidents directives were reasonable. So is this reasonable or are you 100% against it? Still 100% against it. And I did say there were things I didn't like about this. However, in totality, I feel this is reasonable. Same here. I've fired them with friends and our scout troop before and have taken several classes but it was a long time ago.

January 17, 201313 yr It's pretty obvious that most who want to ban "assault weapons" don't either. This is why I have stayed quiet when I hear people talking about this subject. It is such an emotional issue for many that talking about the details and numbers makes you seem cold and heartless, but statistics are important as are the details about what are called "assault weapons." The only accurate definition of one is not the one being used unfortunately.
