One, she is nice looking, now how nice or good looking is up to Pete. Also, does that really matter? I bet most guy son BGP wouldn't post the pics of their wifes out of fear what others may say, so why should celebs be expected to have "hot" wifes? That saying "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

 

Second, Pete is a few months away from SEVENTY TWO! And how old is she? Not bad! :thumb:

 

Pete is 71. Kiana is 31.

TLC's latest series, "Pete Rose: Hits & Mrs.," no doubt began as another wannabe freakshow (most of the channel's lineup is), but winds up playing like a reality-TV version of the May-December coupling on "Modern Family." Mostly, that's thanks to the 71-year-old former baseball great, a sad but still charismatic and comical figure, whose poor judgment cost him any further association with the game and admission to its hallowed Hall of Fame. By that measure, his planned nuptials to a thirtysomething Playboy model, Kiana Kim, are merely a pun-friendly sideshow.

Of course, if Rose thinks signing up for this kind of exposure will somehow endear him to Major League Baseball's current stewards, he stepped into too many pitches; and if he needs the money, well, that's sort of depressing, too.

 

Still, the guy nicknamed Charlie Hustle is still doing just that -- signing autographs, living in Vegas, and trying to teach his would-be stepkids (if, that is, he ever marries their mom) how to hit at a batting cage.

 

The half-hour episodes certainly possess all the qualities of a sitcom, with Pete discussing Kiana's notable assets (although she plans to reduce the two most prominent of them, much to his chagrin), and playfully sparring with her mom, who's about his age, and deserves a TV show of her own.

 

Still, there's also a bittersweet element (and the usual exaggerated drama) in questions about their respective families -- such as whether his grown children will accept the relationship with a perceived "gold-digger," as Kiana acknowledges. In subsequent episodes, Pete tries his hand at parenting Kiana's young kids, and there's even actual pathos when Pete -- having admitted he "made a big mistake" by betting on baseball -- visits Cooperstown but, still smarting over his exclusion from the Hall, won't venture inside.

 

Granted, the focus on Rose and baseball make the series an unusual fit for TLC, which specializes in unorthodox families and carnival acts. ESPN2 might actually be a more natural location, inasmuch as the series might hold more interest for demos that otherwise wouldn't be caught dead watching most of the channel's lineup.

 

Nevertheless, those who do tune in will find the Rose they see here as being as natural at mugging for the camera as he was at the plate. Whether that will be enough to keep the series around long enough for Kim to actually earn her "Mrs." stripes, well, don't bet on it.

That was going to be my next question -- what people are actually learning by watching their programs.

Some of my favorite stations are really going downhill from where they started. TLC and The History Channel are two that come to mind.

Maybe she has the inside scoop playing the ponies?

If you have an incoming 9th grader and you host a coed pool party what is the cutoff for boys age wise? I actually dated a two frosh as a Sr but I don't think I'd want them entertaining my soon to be frosh daughter.

Watched both episodes last night. It wasn't nearly as bad as some of you made it out to be.

Pete Rose has been benched.

 

TLC has pulled the “Pete Rose: Hits & Mrs” finale from the lineup tonight, after only two weeks. Pinch-hitting will be “Cake Boss” (10 and 10:30 p.m., TLC).

 

TLC publicist Shannon Martin insists the show has not be canceled. That decision will be made after the last two episodes (of six) air in late February or March, during the baseball exhibition season. The decision to pull “Pete” tonight was made late last week, after looking at ratings for the first two weeks.

 

“They pulled the last two episodes to save them to air during spring training, when baseball is more top of mind. Until those two episodes air, we won’t make a decision on renewing it,” says Martin, TLC senior publicity director.

 

Since premiereing Jan. 13, the four “Hits & Mrs” episodes have averaged 640,000 viewers, she says.

 

TLC schedule last week originally listed story lines about Pete parenting fiancee Kiana Kim’s two kids while she has breast-reduction surgery (10 p.m.), and Pete awaiting “news on his bid for re-instatement into Major League Baseball.” Don’t bet on it, Pete!

 

And don’t bet on your show being renewed either.

 

It looks like ”Pete” has whiffed on TV. TLC can say no decision has been made, but that’s what TV networks say when they have a couple of episodes to burn off later which will need advertising support. Obviously “Pete” didn’t get huge ratings paired with “Honey Boo Boo,” TLC’s biggest show, and the network made the last-minute switch to banish Pete tonight.
