Taylor Swift question

The vast majority of music that receives the "country" moniker these days is just pop music sung with an occasional bit of a draw and wearing a cowboy hat and/or boots...sometimes.

I agree with this.

Can't say I am a fan but my kids like her. Plus she was just named the most charitable celebrity. That should count for something. It sure beats some of the stories we hear from these so called celebrities.

She sings bubble gum music. There is nothing country about her voice. Quickest way to get me to change the radio dial is play Taylor Swift. I feel the same way about Keith Urban too.

I'm right there with you CWF!

Whether you like her music or not, she deserves some credit based on the fact that she actually writes her own stuff. That's a rarity in the music industry, specifically country, these days.

I'll give you that, yes.

Not that Jimmy Buffett has much need to further his celebrity...but all he would need to do is put on a stetson hat and put out one song and he'd undoubtedly make several million dollars and win a CMA for Artist Of The Year.

I think she writes/performs decent pop songs. In no way would I consider her country but I save my true disdain for more deserving people like Chesney.

Well she is flat out terrible, so whatever you wanna call it.

My kids love her and are the ones who introduced her music to me. I like several of her songs but wouldn't go out and buy a cd. Also if I were 20 years younger I wouldn't want to be her boyfriend, garunteed to rip you to pieces in her next hit.

I really think people need to give her a break. She is young, attractive and, despite what other people say, talented. I have not bought any of her cd's, but I have seen her at the CMA Festival in Nashville, and she was entertaining. A lot of people get a snobbish attitude when it comes to Taylor Swift and country music, in general. Some people are jealous of her success. To answer to question that started this thread, she started out Country, crossed over to Pop and is basically a hybrid. And if I had a child, I would much rather they like Taylor Swift than some rapper.

I am not snobbish or jealous, I just don't care for Taylor Swift. I will say this though, I can listen to her more easily than I can look at her. Bless her heart, she is not attractive.

Well, somebody likes her because she sure does sell a lot of records. And sells out every concert. Must be doing something right.

I agree that different people like different things. I have yet to understand what people see in Bruce Springsteen. Taylor Swift is not my favorite, by any means, I just think she should be applauded for her success. And I don't think there is anyone on this board that wouldn't like to be her manager.

She is getting more attractive as she ages. She's only 22 or 23 and seems to be losing some of the teenage gawkiness.
