I would and I will say I have certainly heard it from Varsity Boys coaches as well. There is just no place for it in High School Athletics. I think your probably right in that when it's male coaches to male players to some it's somehow not as bad. I'm not saying coaches should be perfect and I understand sometimes the game can get the better of you but cursing at players is never acceptable and when I here it happen it tells me all I need to know about a coach.

With a male coach, simply elevating the vocal tone is often enough. Not with female coaches though. In my house, we use the death stare!

I won't go into it too much, but there are many different ways to get your point across to girls and cursing is not one of them. Plenty of studies and classes out there that teach you to relate to female athletes. What we can agree on is that coaching males and females is much different. Agree 1000%, guys coaching girls is a totally different animal.

Refs should call a technical on any high school coach, in any sport, using the F word. No exception; ever.

 

High school administrators should be ashamed of themselves if they tolerate it.

I agree that foul language should not be used around our youths and that it doesn't set a good example for the athletes, however it is hard to challenge Coach Fookes record. I think she knows how to coach girls. Just look at her record.

So the end justifies the means, however foul they may be? We are on a slippery slope with the normalization of bad behavior, anywhere we accept it.

I am not passing judgment on how she does it. Personally, I find it unacceptable as a role model to behave in this manner as described. I agree with everything you're saying. Her record is good, but at what expense of the kids? Is it all about her or the kids? I don't have enough knowledge or experience with her to know. But when you hear these kind of things and see some of the actions, it makes you wonder if it's more of a power trip or is she there to develop high school athletes. Again I can't answer that and wouldn't, but that's the perception I think some have. It's one thing to motivate your kids and instill passion into them to win, it's another to scare respect into them for the good of yourself. On another note, some kids can handle that and others can't. So I'm sure there are success stories out there.

Yes, it is. I think it is a good idea because a woman's voice is hard to hear in the heat of battle.

Let's face it she has been at Boone since what the 80's, not everyone will agree with her style and in today's society her behavior is consider by some to be out of line. I believe there has been a lot of players through the years that has endured her unacceptable behavior and have gone on in life to be very successful. I am going to guess we all have had moments we are not proud of and at least give Nell credit for not trying to be someone she is not. good thing for the Boone program that the administration has seen the benefit of her leading young women as opposed to those who believe she needs to be removed. Good luck to Boone, coach Fookes and the entire Boone Co staff.
