Senior point guard Anna Matchinga became the first player in Covington Latin girls' basketball history to record 1,000 points in the Trojans’ 48-29 win over Ludlow at the Stephanie Wilson Memorial Tournament on Thursday. Matchinga hit a second-quarter field goal to accomplish that feat. Matchinga made another of her buzzer beater threes at the end of the third quarter, that added a lift for Latin, going into the fourth quarter.

The Williamstown game was the first one of the season for Latin, and they were very much out of sync. They are making progress though.

Mitchell Blewett hit his 1,000 Points on Friday and also beating the 4th place postion at Covington Latin. He is now at 1,029 points. This has not been done since 1986.

Just wanted to update you on Mitchell Blewett he is 15 years old. He is having an amazing season he is 26 points from 1,000 only 4 other players in Latin's history has done that.

Blewett is 26 points away from 1,000 varsity points as a Junior. This 6'2 15 year old has broken one of David Justice records. Mitchell has an average this year of 27 or 28 average points per game. His season high is 40 against Riverview East. Hopefully he will do this against SCPA on Thursday night if not a Covington Latins Senior night on Friday against Walden at Notre Dame.

Anna Matchinga (#33) also plays for Covington Latin. On December 4, 2010 at the Bracken County Classic, in a varsity game against Pendleton County she shattered the Covington Latin girls' record for most points scored in a single game by scoring 33 points, including 6 three's and going 5 for 7 at the free throw line. She also had 9 rebounds, 4 assists and three steals. For the 2010-2011 season she scored a total of 232 points, averaging 15.46 points per game.
