NKy 9th graders win AAU State title

Featured Replies

Shining Stars - made up of mostly NKy girls - won the AAU 9th grade State Championship last week-end at KBA. They were led by NCC's Nikki Kiernan. Several girls are from from NDA and Cooper. Nice to see the girls from the north dominate in a state event.

Congrats girls!

Well done! Way to represent NKy!

Does anyone have a complete roster? Congrats to these girls!!

Paige Kellam of Notre Dame

Katey Pittman of Cooper

Car lee Clemons of Notre Dame

Sarah Reilly of Ursaline

Nikki Kiernan of NCC

Rebecca Whitaker of Georgetown

Savannah Brinneman of Cooper

Anna Matchinga of Cov Latin

Allysa Maier of NCC

Tasha Arnett of Cooper

Sami Hare of Boone County

Elle Ogle of Notre Dame

The girls also won the AAU state championship as 8th graders last year.

I have seen this bunch play several times and they are a very talented group and can flat out get it done. Congrats on back to back titles ladies.

I had the chance to watch the Kiernan girl a few times last year. She will DOMINATE NKY the next 3 years. I love her game. Add in that she's got one of the top coaches (boys or girls) in the state and it's a strong situation.

Congrats to all the girls. Buddy does a great job with them.

Anna Matchinga (#33) also plays for Covington Latin. On December 4, 2010 at the Bracken County Classic, in a varsity game against Pendleton County she shattered the Covington Latin girls' record for most points scored in a single game by scoring 33 points, including 6 three's and going 5 for 7 at the free throw line. She also had 9 rebounds, 4 assists and three steals. For the 2010-2011 season she scored a total of 232 points, averaging 15.46 points per game.

The girls won the Blue Chip Cardinal Memorial Day Classic this past weekend. It was played at the University of Louisville. The girls went a perfect 5 wins and 0 losses and defeated the host team Blue Chip All Stars in the championship game. Big weekend for a lot of the Northern Kentucky girls!
