Wow, 3 head coaches in 4 years? What's wrong at NCC?

 

Very impressive record and he sure met the challenge of following a legend. Good luck to him at Georgetown.

Dan Wagner started coaching at his alma mater around 1984 as a freshman / JV / Varsity assistant and JV Baseball Coach, went to Campbell County High School in the early 90’s then returned to Newcath in 2000 and has been DC ever since. He may have been at another school in Ohio for a year or so but I can’t remember. He was a finalist for Head Coach when Bob Schneider left and I for one was very surprised when he returned as DC when he was passed over for the job. I can’t think of a better replacement that will remain at Newcath for many years. I think he is currently a teacher at Campbell County Middle School.

 

I agree. I posted on here years ago Wags should have gotten the job when Eddie did.

Was made aware of the situation while at work this morning. I believe he had a meeting with the seniors today. But I'm not too worried, as I wanted Wagner to be head coach in the first place last time around. If he's not the pick this time, I'll be extremely disappointed. What NCC needs and wants is someone that will stay at the program, and not use it as a stepping stone, Wags is that guy. I wouldn't look in so much to Eddie's record though (again no shot at Eddie, but stating facts), I mean look at the talent on those teams, it's ridiculous. Chris Kelly, Jake Giesler, and many others on the 2010 team, Brady Hightchew, and others on the 2011 team, and Dylan Hayes, Josh Cain, Brady Thacker and others on this 2012 edition. Anything short of the success they had would have been extremely disappointing. Best of luck to Eddie though, but looking forward to Wags becoming the HC.

Would Coach Wagner need to take a job in the building at NewCath to make that happen? Wasn't that a factor when Coach Eviston was hired? I would foresee it being very difficult to teach at one school and be the head coach at another.

Actually, I think the talent this year was down from the previous years and I give major props to Eviston on winning a title this year. He deserves a lot of credit. I am not sure they win the title without him as head coach.

Happens all the time in basketball. Don't know about football?

That's always supposedly been an obstacle, but I'll tell you this much, if that's required, Wags will more than likely get a job in the building. Realistically, he seems like and is NCC's perfect candidate, and has been since Coach Schneider retired. Tough to follow Bob's illustrious career, and Eddie's 2 titles, but Wags is capable of it.

Brady Thacker started as a sophmore, Dylan Hayes got PT as a sophmore, and started as a junior, I can go on for days about these seniors... The talent was absolutely not down. Maybe compared to 2010, but not down.

May happen, but usually not with much success.

Coach Wagner or Terry Brown a NewCath grad coaching at Pendleton Co. I say Terry. He is young and would be coach on the Hill for life.

It is about more than 2, 3 or 4 players. They had some excellent stars to lead the way. Hayes is very good. Thacker is great. IMO he's the best player on the team and one of the best in N. Ky. There are 3 or 4 others that are good players like Rust, Cain, Myers the WR whose name slips my mind. But I don't think there is the depth of talent and I think there is less in the pipeline going forward at NCC. Eviston did a fantastic job this year between developing Cain, working through the injuries, etc.

Don't mistake it, they were very talented, and as far as depth, name a Newcath team that has actually had depth. We are no Highlands, we are a 2A school (and should be 1A), NCC doesn't have the numbers like big schools, NCC has multiple players going both ways. Even on the 2010 team they lacked depth. I know what you're saying, and it's not as talented, but those two teams were extremely talented. He did do a good job overall, I'm just trying not to take anything away from this years' seniors. And agreed, I wish him the best.
