Conner is a completely different team when Barker is on the floor. Hatton held to 20 and fouled out early on the 4th. I believe Barker had about 25 and may have had a double-double. 33rd could get very interesting.

Dixie played their absolute worst game of the year and Coach Chev sent a message to his players tonight. Several key players were sat in the 2nd qtr with about 4 minutes until half and they did not get back into the game. Period. A player who has not played a minute all year went in at that point to prove a point to the team. There were several stretches in the 2nd half where Dixie's JV was 4 of the 5 on the floor. Throw in Hatton sitting a lot in both the 1st half and 2nd half with foul trouble and there you have it.

 

Conner's guards are very suspect. The Barker kid is good and makes them better, but I wouldn't get too excited in Hebron tonight.

A win is a win. No excuses, every team has a game or two or more where the star gets in foul trouble, hurt whatever. 14points is pretty significant. I have no dog in this fight but the cougs deserve kudos.

I'm not making excuses. My point is that Conner's varsity should be able to beat Dixie's JV by 14. Not too much to get excited about.

Ennam is not giving Conner's D on Hatton any credit. They made him work. They made it tough to get looks. Outside of the first two shots where he smartly posted up Way and 2 3s in a row in the 3rd the combo of Lamblez and Barker did about as well as you can on such a good offensive player.

 

Conner failed to capitalize in the 2nd quarter when Hatton missed much of it with foul trouble. They made it worse early 3rd when Dixie went up (with varsity boys!) by about 5 or 7. Conner then kicked it in (with Hatton and other varsity boys on the floor!) and flipped the deficit and went up by 7 or so.

 

From there they just had to withstand that one surge by Hatton.

Barker hit 3s. He posted up and got buckets. Made most of his FTs after a shaky start from the line. I'm guessing he had 4 or 5 assists. Rebounded well. Guarded the 1, the 3, and the 5 at various points.

 

He played about as well as I've seen him.

 

Big first half by Hemmerich got the momentum going.

I said at the beginning of the year that Conner would be a dangerous team. One of the biggest reasons I kept them in my top 10 this week was because Drew Barker makes them so much better when he is on the floor. Not to take anything away from Ryle, but I think a game later in the year we will have a different outcome.

Your overall point is correct but Ryle showed tonight they can play.

 

Conner's guard play STILL will determine how far they can go. It doesn't have to be great. It just can't be poor.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Drew and Brandon battle one-on-one. They've been boys since a young age playing AAU for James Pouncy. Drew got Brandon when Brandon tried to check him in the post and Brandon got Drew with a step-back 3. I'm sure both enjoyed the battle.

The fouls on Hatton were legit. I only questioned #4 because I thought he got all ball but he may have whacked the shooter across the head. I couldn't tell. The other 4 were easy calls.

Not much to get excited about for Dixie. Why would you point out issues at Conner when Dixie is the team having to sit players to prove a point. I thought Pike graduated... Guess the culture lives on.

So this really wasn't a true win in your opinion due to the fact that Dixie played terrible and Hatton was in foul trouble?
