Should they reopen Sandy Hook Elementary this school year?

Featured Replies

Felt this deserved its owns thread. In my opinion thy should not. Too much happened and too many lives lost and there will not be any focus on school work from anyone. District needs to focus on making schools safer and a better environment for students.

Kinda worded the tread weird. Of a mod wants to change the title to "should they close" that'd probably work better.

Yes the kids need to move past this in my opinion. It's horrible what's happened but I feel like not reopening allows them to dwell on it.

Yeah, maybe they can come up with something that keeps a mentally deranged person from using an assault rifle to blast rounds through the front door to gain entry. Nothing short of Fort Knox would have kept him out.

Don't forget about the armed guards for recess either....

Well lets take your route and just leave the doors wide open.

With all due respect, the school was locked, the killer forced his way in. What else would you suggest doing? As to the topic of the thread, yes these young ones need to go back to school but they need to find an alternate place for them.

Back to the topic. I don't know what the situation in the district is, but probably reopen the school, and give parents and kids the option to move their kids to a different school?

It should be about time for Christmas break, so I say just start the break early and come back to school after the New Year. Closing for the rest of the school year accomplishes nothing IMO.

You have what 4 teachers the principal and the counselor dead plus 20 students? I don't think Christmas break is gonna make everyone forget or have enough time to heal.

I would fully agree if this happened at a high school. 16, 17 and 18 year olds need their buddies to cope with this. I'm just not sure how a child deals with this. Honestly not sure if going back to the scene of the crime is best for kids that young.

Close the school and transfer the students for the rest of the school year . Reopen next year .

Move them to different schools on the district to finish the year. Not sure if a parent could drop their kid off at Hook. Plus they have to scramble to add staff.

I'm in favor of whatever the local officials decide.

I agree. Not sure if there is a right answer as I can honestly see both sides.
