December 14, 201213 yr Schools need to be on a lockdown at all times. The doors should be locked to the entrance and there should be a vestibule type area with someone maintaining it and monitors who comes in to the school.

The doors are locked down when the children arrive. EVERY visitor has to be buzzed in through visual identification from an Administration person. I don't know what happened here but these safe guards were in place at this school. (At least according to media reports all day)

December 14, 201213 yr Per the Chicago tribune: "A source told the Associated Press that the suspect is 24 years old and that his younger brother is being held." I hope his younger brother is being held for his own safety, rather than the safety of others.

December 14, 201213 yr Maybe it's time some teachers begin to get trained on weapons and be allowed to carry... Heck, lets put armed vets in the schools and they can be the school resource officers. This can solve some unemployment issues and put peace of mind in the safety of the schools. If it costs the school districts more money then I am sure the citizens won't have a problem in sharing the cost.
