December 13, 201213 yr Seven Catholic schools leaning toward leaving Big East, sources say - ESPN Thoughts?
December 13, 201213 yr This has to be making UC, UConn, and USF really sweat. Obviously there is nothing any of them can do about it, since UofL and Rutgers cannot vote with the 3, eligible to vote, football schools. I'm sure all of the football schools, including those set to join the league in the next 2 years, are talking. We'll just have to wait and see what the fall out is.
December 13, 201213 yr The BBall only schools have been a burden on the conference for years, and played a huge part in the exodus of Pitt, Cuse, WVU, UL and Rutgers. Now they want to bolt because Tulane is coming on board? I also find it hilarious that GTown, Marquette and Nova are pushing this, and have to drag DePaul, Providence, Seton Hall and St John's along to get whatever it is they desire. Amongst those four bottom feeding schools there is one relevant hoops season over the past 7 years combined. I'm sure that will garner a huge windfall of TV money...
December 13, 201213 yr ^I heard rumblings of them joining up with the A-10 to make it a "super conference" of 20-21 teams.
December 13, 201213 yr ^I heard rumblings of them joining up with the A-10 to make it a "super conference" of 20-21 teams. The 7 Big East schools have denied any interest in joining the A10. I could seem them trying to poach the 5-7 schools at the top of the league, but if they are worried about Tulane they want no part of the A10 basement...

I could seem them trying to poach the 5-7 schools at the top of the league, but if they are worried about Tulane they want no part of the A10 basement... Spitballing here, so bear with me: 1. How much of the A-10 plays football? 2. Could the "new" Big East poach the non-football, competitive cream of the A-10 to make a 10-12 team basketball league? 3. Would there be enough football schools in the current A-10 to merge with a league like the Colonial? 4. Could the non-cream of A-10 basketball find their way into smaller leagues like the MAAC? I don't know what you can answer on that, but those are some thoughts that came to mind while reading all of this.
December 13, 201213 yr If these 7 leave, here is what the league looks like based on that article: UC UConn South FL Full members Temple Houston SMU Memphis UCF Tulane 2014 Football only Boise St. San Diego St. East Carolina 2014 Navy 2015

December 13, 201213 yr Dayton and Butler play football in the Pioneer League. U Mass plays football in the MAC. Duquesne plays football in the Northeast Conference. Charlotte is adding football in 2013. Charlotte is leaving to C-USA after this season.
December 13, 201213 yr Charlotte is leaving to C-USA after this season. U Mass and Charlotte are the only two A10 schools playing FBS level football and both of them are new to FBS football. So to answer gchs' question above on football, those are the only two A10 affiliated schools that are possible targets for the "New" Big East.
December 13, 201213 yr The Big East has been the big loser in the conference realignment game. It is turning into a dreadful and desperate entity. No natural rivalries. No football powers that will draw attention. UC is in a rough spot for a year or two.
December 13, 201213 yr Brett McMurphy @McMurphyESPN If/when 7 hoops schools leave, Big East will have lost 17 members since 2005. Even WAC is impressed
December 13, 201213 yr ^I heard rumblings of them joining up with the A-10 to make it a "super conference" of 20-21 teams. Do you need quality to be a super conference? Or just a large amount of teams?
