If you think guys like Bielema (sp?), Steve Sarkisian at Washington, Gundy at Oklahoma State, heck even Paul Johnson @ GT are out of reach, etc, then that's part of the problem.

 

Those, are what I consider home run hires. Guys who are current head coaches and have won.

Shouldn't it be noted that UK clearly felt Jones was the better hire as they went after him first, got turned down and went back for a second try before hiring Stoops???

And to that you can add the main reason they didn't get Butch was because his eyes were on the UT job all along???

When have I ever said he is terrible? Matter of fact, I think I stated in one post that I was fine with the Stoops hire, but upset with the fact that Mitch didn't go after some of these guys who were already head coaches with proven track records as a head coach.

 

Do I think Stoops is a bad hire? No. A great hire? No. A solid hire? Sure.

Obviously Butch Jones record as a head coach makes him look much more appealing than hiring a coordinator. Only time will tell who the better hire was.

If I had to put money on who gets fired sooner at their next job , Stoops or Jones, my bet is Jones!

Count me in the minority, I guess, but the Stoops hire doesn't excite me. Florida State isn't exactly dominating the SEC and the Seminoles' defense hasn't fared all that well against the top teams on their schedule. To be honest, the Stoops name lacks the cache it had several years ago.

 

As for Jones ... good luck with that. Tennessee is becoming a meat grinder job.

Ky may need a personality type more like Jones that like Stoops to turn the program around......hope I'm wrong though.

Impossible for us to get a big name hire. Hopefully, Stoops becomes a big name while at UK. I'll give him a chance... I expected UT would open the checkbook for a big name. I have a feeling we landed the better of the two.
