December 7, 201213 yr Really? The football program brings in twice as much revenue as the basketball program, yet they pay their head football coaches 1/2 as much as Cal. Does that makes sense? Again, some of you are missing my point. It's not Stoops that I have the issue with, it's the admin. Had we at least known for a fact, that UK had offered guys like I mentioned in my previous posts and they said "No", but were able to snag Stoops, then I'm 100% ok with it. How the hell do you expect to know that they did or didn't? Who would report that Mitch called Gundy or (insert big name here) and they didn't take the call? You're assuming, and you know what they say about people that assume.

You're assuming, and you know what they say about people that assume. Quit pulling that card, the same reasons/person(s)/outlet(s) that we all heard from that knew Stoops had been offered the job. No difference. Go to footballscoop.com, are they ever wrong? Sure. As we all are, except you, b/c you must be an exception, being as to how you come off as one who has never "assumed" anything. That they are a grown men who have JJ Reddick as their avatar? Something like that?

December 7, 201213 yr I agree, I think both are good coaches but UK won the PR battle in making it look like they were agressive and got the coach that they wanted as opposed to who's left. I think Jones has the tougher job due to the higher expectations but I think both will have success. :thumb:
December 7, 201213 yr IMO UK couldn't make a Homerun hire with the current state of the program. I think that the Stoops hire is fine. As for UT they should be able to make a Homerun hire, they have facilities, fan base and financial support to be a top program again.
December 7, 201213 yr Well this thread really died about as quickly as it got started. Anyways I would say UK got the upper hand based on the excitement generated with the fan base.

Honest question, do you not think they could have gotten a guy like Bielema? "Hey Brett, here is $4 million. You and your hot 27 year old, model wife come down to Lexington. The fan base is beyond hungry for 1st class football program. It has hit rock bottom. There is nowhere to go but, up. We pack 70K on the regular until this year, and we're traditionally a roundabouts .500 program. We'll give you whatever you need, and on top of that, the SEC east is a little bit more manageable right now."

Yea but UK wasn't really aggressive in landing Stoops because he was actually the one that contacted UK first and laid out his plan for turning the program around. I feel like both teams got good coaches but I think UK fans are more excited about theirs.
December 7, 201213 yr Glad the feeling is mutual You stated UT based on the fact they offered bigger names. I guess if UK could have offered Bill Belichick, that way you would think UK hit a home run.

His record in the B10... 23-1 against Minnesota, Indiana, Illinios, and Purdue 16-18 against everyone else

I also don't think that he would be worth $4M either.
December 7, 201213 yr No I honestly don't think he would. I also don't think that he would be worth $4M either. It would never get to that point. The conversation would go something like this, I imagine: "Hey Bret, it's Mitch Barnhart, UK AD....We've got a coaching open...."click"...."
