Finally catching my breath after this track meet. Pendleton's supporting cast played better than Augusta's. that decided this one. Bach vs. Monroe loved up to,it's billing. I had Bach for 45 and Monroe for 39, as well. The halftime ceremony honoring Nate Jones was special...It was an honor to take part in. All in all a great evening!

That is impressive. Bach and Monroe score a total of 84 points based on what I was told.

Within 30 seconds of the opening tip, maybe less than that, Mason Monroe & Brent Bach both hit 3-pointers. Monroe started it & then Bach answered. It was a sign of things to come, as Bach finished with 45 points & Monroe 39. I believe Monroe's 39th point was Pendleton County's 100th point.

 

I don't have any other numbers or stats, but the supporting cast for Pendleton County pulled their weight tonight. Antrobus hit some threes. Appleman hit one or two. But I really thought Gibson & Moore played pretty well tonight. Not sure what they had numbers-wise, but I was impressed with how they played.

 

Game was tight in the first quarter. Wildcats led it 23-22 after the first 8 minutes. Early in the second, Pendleton made nice little 9-1 run. Tanner Kelsch picked up his second during that run & Pendleton basically maintained that lead for the remainder of the game. I think they led by as many as 16 at one point, but for the most part this was a 9-13 point game. Augusta never could get enough stops to make a bigger dent into the lead, but Pendleton really didn't stop the Panthers either. That early 2nd quarter run really made the difference IMO.

 

I mentioned in the update thread that Transy's Brian Lane was in attendance. From what I have been told, they've been recruiting Monroe pretty hard. I briefly chatted with Coach Lane & just asked him if he was there to see Monroe. He said yes & then stated, "Pretty nice game, huh?" He seemed impressed. Coach Lane was also destroying a bag of popcorn at halftime. Must not have stopped for supper on the drive from Lexington.

 

Really, though, this game was about Monroe vs. Bach. They are undoubtedly two of the finest scorers we have in the 10th. They go about their business in different ways, but both are efficient. Both have an ability to get to the free throw line & convert. Bach probably hit a dozen free throws tonight. I don't believe he missed a single one. I also joked in the update thread that Bach hit one from McDonald's at the start of the game. No kidding, he was behind the volleyball line & drew nothing but net.

 

Monroe's mid-range game is simply fabulous. He can penetrate, stop on a dime & drill that ten to fifteen footer as well as anybody. I thought he did really well at not forcing the action tonight & just taking advantage of opportunities when they came his way. I can only think of one play where he might have been out of control. Just a solid, solid player.

 

Great game overall. A lot of up-and-down play & a ton of points scored. Great effort by both squads! :thumb:

Actually, I think he needs his own media pass, although I'm not sure how believable a 7 year old in a snowsuit flashing his credentials at the admissions table would be. :lol:

 

Also listened to Augusta's webcast while anxiously awaiting RP'S updates. That young gentleman did an outstanding job as well!

Both teams played with great emotion and effort to the last second; that's what HS Basketball is all about to me. Pendleton "shot the lights out", I bet it was 65%+ for the game albeit many of the shots were uncontested. I'm sure Coach Hinson will, as he always does, make this a teaching/learning lesson for his young team to improve upon. Brent & Mason embraced at games end in a sign of mutual respect. Great effort by both teams but PC too mature and too "hot" for us tonight.

Walked into school this morning and told our principal, "That's what Kentucky High School Basketball is all about." Easily one of the most energetic, fun, memorable and entertaining games I've ever seen on any level. According to the @BluegrassBball twitter account Mason Monroe now has 1,695 career points. He has started since his 8th grade season and is one of the best all-time at Pendleton County. The kid can flat out play. He is sometimes overlooked because of the location of PCHS and his size of only 5'9". If Coach Brian Lane gets him on at Transy, they will have made a great decision. Monroe can be a great player on the Division III level.

 

As for Augusta's Brent Bach, the kid is a Division I talent in my opinion. I jokingly told one of my co-workers this morning, "I wonder if Coach Jason Hinson drew up that 35 footer Bach swished to start the game?" Not only can Bach shoot from deep, his athleticism is very deceiving and has a motor like not many 16 year olds have.

 

What a great game played by both teams. In my opinion, Augusta will give Mason County everything they can handle. Pendleton County will score a ton of points this season with their uptempo style, but can they get a defensive stop when they need it??

In the second half of the JV game PC went on a shooting spree, seemingly hitting everything. That basically carried over to the varsity game. Very impressed with the Wildcats' offensive execution.

Most of my game watching consists of girls basketball due to the fact that I have close family members playing at both the high school & college level, so it's not often that I get to take in a boys game. And for whatever reason, I always watch a game from a journalistic perspective. Not really sure why. :lol:

 

But I had this one marked on my calendar a long, long time ago & didn't want to miss it. It was most certainly very entertaining. :thumb:

I have always felt like Coach Hinson's teams are some of the most exciting to watch in the 10th region. Love his style of coaching.
