There is no such thing as a "select class" in any state ... no one in Kentucky wants it, either. Let's just go back to four classes ... the state title games, and football in general, were better then.

There's not one school in the state of Kentucky that isn't doing "the right thing." If you have evidence to the contrary, please contact the KHSAA.

 

Show me where I accused any school of breaking rules. I didn't. What I said is that a start would to have every district have the same set of rules they go by, you said it yourself that some districts choose to be stricter than others. That is what I meant and said.

 

Another thing is, several people in here have said they like the elite class that would have Trinity, St X, HHS and cov cath, and that is the problem I brought up in my first post and where I said it was arrogant. Who says Cov Cath is elite? I mean they are very good, but when was the last time they even won regionals? I think if you include them then you better include about a half dozen or so other schools. That is what I meant when I said it is arrogant. CCH is very good, but didn't they only have a couple winning seasons in the last several years?

I used several of the traditional powers in my example. It was not meant to be an all inclusive list, as evidenced by my mentioning that there would be a handful of other teams in the class as well. Sorry if I left your team off of my hypothetical list.

Cooper doesn't belong there either. I was making a point why the idea was silly, because who is to say who should be in?

But this would be arbitrary. And there lies a problem for KHSAA. KHSAA is a function of the Board of Education and that is a creation of the legislature and all must abide by the Kentucky Constitution. Arbitrary assignment of schools to some super-class would be unconstitutional. What a court mess if they tried this.

 

I believe the current 'super district' and its arbitrary rotation is unconstitutional. Also, the limits of 32 teams in 1A and 6A seems unconstitutional since it guarantees a playoff game for teams that go 0-10 in 1A and 6A while teams that are in other classes with 5 or 6 teams will not go to a playoff if they are 0-10. Similar situated teams but treated differently. That is supposed to be unconstitutional.

 

So while some dream of super-classes, etc. they need to remember KHSAA can no do arbitrary things - or is not supposed to be able to.

Cov Catholic, even in years that they have sub par records, play quality competition from the GCL and Cincinnati and are still better than 80% of the teams in Kentucky. Kentucky high school football, aside from a very few quality teams, is pretty weak. Cov Cath is among the few quality teams.

Quality teams, I think there are several quality teams in NKY. There are 2 in Class 5A, Cooper and Conner. 2 in 4A in HHS and CCH and then you have Beechwood in 1a who usually does pretty good. NCC who represented 2a nicely also Holy Cross just 1 year from a state title. So there are 7 teams just in nky. Not sure where you come off thinking there are only 2 teams. Out of the 7 teams I just named 5 of them have been to the state championship more recently than Cov Cath.

I never listed an elite class. I did post somewhere that some in 4A may want a 'super district' in 4A made up of HHS, CCH, LexCath and Boyle to contain those 4 just as was done in 6A with Trinity, X, Male and Manuel. CCH is usually a top 4 in the current 4A and was easily 2 or 3rd best this year. The fact is that 4A now looks like 6A with 1 super dominant team, a very small group fighting for 2nd place in the same geography and the others. No offense or knock on the last group. Just stating recent historical facts.

 

What this does point out is that the feeling that success is solely measured by state titles. For the current 2 super elite that is probably true. But I have been to many schools that display their district and regional titles as much as state titles. But if the sole measure is state titles then each year we have 6 winners and 214 losers. And why are kids turned away from the sport if this is the attitude?

Quality teams being teams that have shown over time that they can play with almost anyone in the state and not be embarrassed. I do not believe flash in the pans like Holy Cross or Ryle or Cooper to be in that class. I also do not consider smaller teams that do well in their divisions but who would take beatings on a regular basis if they played against the quality teams, to be in that class. As I stated previously, Cov Cath has shown that they can hang with very good teams, they step up to play a strong regular season schedule, they are a good team and in my opinion they belong in the conversation. Believe me, I am not a Cov Cath fan and this is just my opinion, not sure why you have your shorts in a bunch over my opinion.

You forget if it wasn't for Highlands, CovCath would have 3-4 more state titles.

Let's have a single class, just like Basketball and Baseball,

then let everyone make the playoffs,

and let the season go on until late March when there will be a

Kentucky High School Athletic Association Super Bowl.

 

Then one team will be able to say they are the greatest

and then everyone else has to bow down and pay homage to them,

BUT they get a medal for participating.

KY football the elite teams play other elite teams in KY or OH during the regular season to see what their truly made off, then go collect their rings in December, most of their competition in Nov/Dec just drag the year out.
