This is what they instituted in Oklahoma last year.

 

B. In athletic activities, a member school shall be placed one classification above the classification in which the member school would be placed according to ADM if the member school meets any three of the following four

criteria:

 

i) the school has the ability to decline admission or enrollment to a student, even if the student and the

student's parents (or custodial parent or court-appointed guardian with legal custody of the student) reside

within that school's public school district or designated geographic area;

 

ii) the school is located within a fifteen (15) mile radius of a school placed in the 5A or 6A classification

according to ADM;

 

iii) fewer than twenty-five (25) percent of the children enrolled at the school in grades nine through twelve

qualify for free or reduced lunches;

 

iv) the school's ADM in grades nine through 12 has increased by fifty (50) percent or more over the previous

three school years.

 

C. A school moved up one classification pursuant to the above criteria will be moved back down in classification in a

particular activity if the school's team has not finished among the top eight teams in that activity in at least three of

the previous five school years.

 

Indiana has instituted a new "success factor" rule. Each championship (from state to regional) is assigned a point value. If you exceed that point value over a certain period of time, then you move up a class.

 

I would like to see these things for Kentucky, but then everyone is going to have to shut up and get better. There are still going to be really good teams out there and you are not going to be handed a ring.

Ok, I have a question then. Let's use Highlands as an example here. So Highlands wins 6 consecutive state titles and then chooses to move up to 5A.

Let's pretend they win 5 more titles at that class and move up to 6A after 12 years using this criteria and they never win again because Trinity has their number. So what does Highlands do? They can just move down when they want so they can beat up on lesser competition or do they have to stay at 6A?

Average margin of victory in the championship game since six-class football began:

 

28.6 ('12); 26.5 ('11); 36.1 ('10); 22.0 ('09); 16.8 ('08); 16.0 ('07)

 

Average margin of victory in the championship game in the final six seasons of four-class football:

 

14.7 ('06); 21.0 ('05); 19.7 ('04); 19.5 ('03); 20.5 ('02); 23.2 ('01)

 

Looks like no matter how many Classes you have in the state, the Avg Score differential in the championship games are still by at least 3 scores.

 

so it really doesn't matter if there are 4 classes or 6 classes.

Schools without great traditions have to overcome more than (Trinity).

Schools without great Principals have to overcome more than (Trinity).

Schools without great booster clubs have to overcome more than (Trinity).

Schools without deep, and I mean deep coaching staffs have to overcome more than (Trinity).

Notice I did not mention anything about players. Recruiting rumors are a non factor until we step up to the plate and take care of everything else, then the players thing just takes care of itself. Its like magic.

Quit whining. The winners are playing within the rules. Call Julian Tackett or the BOC to change the rules. Or call your local school board to level the playing field for your teams head coach with more support, more money, more staff, more planning time, and open enrollment

 

It is not (Trinity's) job to come back to the pack.

It is not Khsaa's job to move you somewhere that you don't have to play (Trinity) to win a championship.

Highlands would only move up 1 class even after 6 titles in a row if the enrollment didn't change.

 

The good programs are still going to be the good programs you will just get more games statewide with teams playing schools that are more similar demographically.

A team like Highlands just shouldn't be in a class let alone a district with a Pendleton. Those deals would be fewer and farther between.

The Oklahoma and Indiana deals wouldn't keep Highlands from being great nor would it magically get Pendleton a state title. You have to earn those.

Take the top 4 teams each year by ranking them by Lit, Cantrell, Computer, BGP poll or someway. Have 1 play 4, 2 play 3 and winners play for Open Championship. Keep all other things like it is.

I like 6 class system but think top 2 teams should advance only.

I would debate 2007 but you could be right about the other two.

 

But so many teams can say the same about "one team." How many titles would Mayfield have without Danville? Too much conjecture to build a current resume on IMO.
