January 9, 201313 yr I'm a two timer. Your 1st ballot guys are your Ruth, Mantle, Mays, etc. type guys. Or as I like to put it, guys worthy of nomination to be on the Mount Rushmore of baseball. Then, there is everyone else that makes the Hall. After that, remove them from the list. But if picking between what they have now and only 1 shot at it, then I would go with your line of thinking. This. IMO, there's a distinct difference between a first ballot HOF'er and a HOF'er.

January 9, 201313 yr I think two of the biggest travesties going right now are Bagwell and Raines not being in. Both are no-brainers IMO.

I was only saying that if the old crotchety writers didn't want to vote them in first ballot to prove a point, okay. But not voting them in at all would be a joke. Regardless, they're first ballot to me.

I think most would agree that Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb...etc are considered two of the best ever...while Roberto Alomar is not.

If they took the approach that a guy is either in or not he would only show up on one ballot. They should have something gold on their plaque/busts.

Correction...Reds fans stuffed the ballot box to get 7 Reds players on the starting team of the '57 Allstar Game. Had nothing to do with The Hall.
January 9, 201313 yr If I had a vote, my ballot would be: Jeff Bagwell Craig Biggio Jack Morris Mike Piazza Barry Bonds Roger Clemens Curt Schilling Dale Murphy Tim Raines Edgar Martinez Then Palmeiro, Big Mac, and Sosa should be in if you include the other Steriod boys.
January 9, 201313 yr ^Only allowed 10 votes. The difference in them and Bonds is they were HOF worthy because of steroids. Bonds was a HOF'er before he ever thought about using, and it's never been proven that he used them. Never a positive test, nothing. They would get my vote the following year, except for McGwire, who did absolutely nothing HOF worthy other than hit HRs.
