What can the Tigers Do?

Featured Replies

I don't want to taint the game thread with this discussion so let's talk it out here Tiger fans and any others who want to chip in a thought (there's your invite TP :D). Beechwood has now lost 4 straight times to Mayfield, and only one of those games was close in the 4th quarter. What is the problem? What is the solution?

From what I have seen over the years of the Beechwood coaching staff they don't do a very good job of making adjustments in the second half..That is just what I have noticed..:idunno:

Fire Noel!!!! So Lloyd can hire him :D

We noticed most of the sideline quite the second half, no cheering on the guys on the field as in the past. This was the first game I was able to attend this year so not sure if this is true for all games.

But I was impressed how well the frosh played, should be an interesting 3 years ahead of them.

Let's not head that way even in jest. I want to have a good thread and discussion.

I have said often that Bw does not develop a decent qb and passing game. The run mentality of Bw is old school. You can't develop the pass game to the level it needs to be without working on it for the entire year and in most cases it takes over a year of running it to get it to the level it needs to be at. Now u still run. I'm talking Bw needs to be balanced but very skilled when they do pass

How did the frosh do passing wise? Any good receivers to watch in the future?

Problem could possibly be solved with no effort from Beechwood, there is rumor that Mayfield could move up to 2A.

Make sure Jackson graduates and moves on. Sounds like this kid single handedly took over.

I don't think there is any doubt that something has to happen offensively and it has to be in the passing game. You are right, the Beechwood offense is old school. Beechwood's best plays came when they threw the ball. Both TD's were on passes. There should have been more of it. Look at Mayfield's offense last night. Talk all you want about how great Jackson is, but he became much more effective in the second half when Mayfield finally got the passing game on track. You have to face the fact that football is a passing game today on all levels. I really thought the Tigers were going to open it up last night. Did they throw one pass on first down? Did they throw one pass on 2nd down and less than 10? They threw the ball when they had to and that is no way to run an offense. They couldn't run the ball last year versus Mayfield with great backs and an excellent line led by a tackle who is starting as a freshman for a D1 school. Yet they still seemed focused on the run. Pass the ball or get ready for more pain versus the top notch teams on the schedule.

I hope and believe Beechwood will change their offense over the next few years with the talent they have coming up. You'll have Fieger, Stringer, Slusher, Bankamper and Combs for 3 more years. If Beechwood doesn't balance the offense out with these guys they never will..I see at least 2 State Championships from Beechwood with this crew..JMO

Their line play on both sides of the ball needs to improve dramatically. That is really where the games are won and lost.

Or the problem could be that Mayfield is just better right now? Maybe it has to do with the fact that Mayfield has had arguably the best two teams in the programs history these last two years? Maybe it has something to do that they have also had arguably the best player to wear a Mayfield uniform in that time as well (Mr. Jackson), not to mention a quarterback in that same capacity as well. Maybe it just so happens that Beechwood isn't as good (although they still have a dang fine football team) as they have been before this four year stretch?

I know this was brought up for discussions sake, but this stuff just kills me and I couldn't be further removed from having a dog in this fight.

I get why the Beechies might be disgruntled; Highlands is on a tear like none other in their history. Along side that, mayfield has beaten them 4 straight years, as well. So, now lets question everything you are doing when the likely (yet humbling) answer probably lies in one of the reasons I posted above. And it's just that simple.

Jimmies and Joes. Jimmies and Joes.

The same could be said about Highlands in many games this year, but with them, you've always got the threat of the pass. The beauty of having an effective passing game, is that you can pick & choose how to deploy it. Regular season against an inferior team, throw it around and work on some things. Tight game in the playoffs, throttle it back and play ball control. Either way, the defense has to respect it. As soon as the safeties begun to suck in, here comes the long ball.

Isnt Hergott the Offensive Coordinator? I would think that he will go with the strengths and I would guess that next year they will have Stringer back there toting the pigskin and Fieger back at QB so wouldnt you expect it to be 50/50 or different?
