Christmas Shopping on Thanksgiving Day

Featured Replies

I have no problem with the Black Friday mania shopping. This year stores are opening at 8 pm on Thanksgiving night.

I would hope that people would stay home with their families Thanksgiving night, but I fear too many will be out fighting for a bargain.

Why short change a great holiday to jump start another that has long been about retail sales?

I agree! I think some of the area Krogers close at 6pm on Thanksgiving. Then the holiday frenzy starts at 8pm? It seems crazy to us right now, but this will soon be the new normal. Thursday will be the new Black Friday.

Greed, nothing more, Greed by the shoppers, Greed by the stores, Greed.

And then someone else will try to beat that, so they'll start sales on Wednesday. And then someone will try to outdo that, so they'll start their stuff on Tuesday. Pretty soon we'll be backed up to Halloween.

I personally feel sorry for the people who do this. I also feel sorry for the people who camp out to be the first to get shoes, Iphones, video games, movie passes. The only thing that I would stand in line for is an event that is live like a concert or big playoff game.

Why is it okay to stand in line for concerts and playoff games, but those who do so for movie passes, iPhones, etc, are to be pitied?

See, and I feel sorry for people that do that. All about perspective.

I guess, I'll echo TB&G's comments...Why is one okay, but the other not?

I absolutely agree. Those who are out shopping should stay home and those who are working should be allowed to stay home with their families. It can all wait.

I usually don't do either one of them...but, if I had to, I'd agree with Mexitucky. The concert or playoff game is usually a one-time only event. You miss it, it's gone...you can't get it back. With movies, iPhones, etc., these are all items. It's not a one-time thing. For many of these people, it's all about being FIRST. I'm alright with seeing a movie on the second night, or shoot, maybe even the second weekend. It's not like they're going to show it only the one night.

But what if I couldn't care any less about getting a concert ticket? Standing in line for Star Wars Episode I (mistake) and The Fellowship of the Ring (INCREDIBLE) were experiences in themselves and for someone like me, who had been looking forward to those movies for years, that was way more interesting than a concert. As for standing in line for an iPhone, yeah, I couldn't care any less, but I do know people who love that sort of stuff and couldn't care one iota about a playoff game.

It will be epic ...

In reality, who cares.

If you like to shop like this, go for it, if not then stay home.

Black Friday has been trending this way for years, 6 AM then 4 AM then Midnight etc.

The true shoppers were already out in line on Thanksgiving night for years.

The only possible victims here are those who dont want to, but must work. For those people I feel sorry, but some i know while they do not realy want to work, like the double time plus incestives they will earn.

Nothing is sacred anymore let em shop.

I hate shopping but I love Black Friday.
