I can agree on that. Even as a non-UK fan it's sad the system has made the KENTUCKY brand mean what it now does.

I thought I had insinuated it but I'll go further.

 

People used to play for Kentucky to be a part of the program. To be a part of history and a part of something special. Nowadays it's not about the program or the history of UK. It's about coming to play there for one year and going to the NBA. The fact that Cal accumulates so many of them at the same time contributes to the winning. And winning doesn't necessarily cure everything...see Daniel Orton. The whole mentality of playing for Kentucky is different now. It doesn't mean what it used to. If Cal is only able to deliver one top notch recruit in 2015-16 and UK loses 10 games and that kid still leaves anyways is what I am getting at. Used to be the kids would at least stick around for another year or so. Now because of the one and done sysytem they don't. The loyalty is gone. They are loyal to themselves. Because of the system.

BUT, If you were one of these players and you had a multi million dollar contact in front of you, what would you do? Sign the contract and more than likely set yourself up for life? Or wait a another year or two and possibly get injured and ruin the chance of getting anything? I know more players are doing it now, but Patterson's family took out an insurance policy when he came back for his last year at UK, not sure how much Lloyd's of London charges, but I am sure a lot of families can't afford it.

Being completely and totally honest it would depend on my team's chances to win a title and how much I enjoyed college. Those two factors would determine my choice. I really really really like winning and I am loyal to a fault.

 

And keep in mind. I'm not blaming the players. I am blaming the system. Take away the rule and go back to how it was and there would be a lot less one and done players.

I want to add, that, I think Miller, MKG, Knight, Liggins, Jorts, Lamb, knew what it meant to wear KY across their chest. You are not going to convince me that they didn't leave here knowing what it meant to wear that jersey.

 

Like it has been said though, I blame the system. Cal has said it before he just benefits from it, doesn't mean he necessarily likes it. I would love to see a two year rule in place. But these kids are taught from day one the goal is to make it to the NBA and make as much money as possible. I hope this changes one day.

I don't care if they play 1 year or 4... If the players play the game like Wall, Knight, MKG, Davis did, they get what it means to put on a UK jersey. The one thing that impresses me about the elite players that Cal has brought in is how hard they play... This team looks to be the same. Kids playing with the emotion and passion of last years team is what KENTUCKY basketball is about... It doesn't matter how old they are or how long they stay... Last years TEAM played as a team laid it on the line almost every night and represented the commonwealth in a way we can be proud of.

ESPN had the story on their news tonight. They played the tape of what he said, then commented about it. But they didn't mention the post-comment statements made by Woods to clarify his earlier comments.

My guess is that Woods probably wishes he had kept his comments to the upcoming game.
