November 11, 201213 yr For a few months now the church I attend has been saying a prayer for Religious Freedom. I am assuming other Catholic churches have been doing the same, correct? Some will remember that I was a bit bothered by this because it seemed self-serving. We've never once prayed for the concept of religious freedom in the broad sense. It only came about as a result of the controversial issue regarding birth control. I am fully behind praying for religious freedom for all and did even though I suspected the Church was only praying for itself. Lo and behold the very first Sunday post-election we no longer say the prayer? Have we changed our position? Are we no longer for religious freedom? Was it just my parish?
November 12, 201213 yr Author What exactly do they mean by 'religious freedom'? The prayer we used to recite talked about it as a general concept. Govt not telling religions what they can believe and how they can practice. Not earth-shattering or ground-breaking. What one would expect. We said it for a couple of months at the end of every Mass. Now? Nothing. Must just be my parish. Heck , maybe it's just one priest. I'll be curious to see.
November 12, 201213 yr We have not had that prayer at our parish. I went to mass in your area last week and recall a prayer at the end of a mass that was probably it, but I was not paying attention. Wonder if it is a diocese decision?
