As to a serious(i.e. non-fanatical) assessment of this match up. I think the Tigers will come out fired up for Coach Glaser and the first half will be a tight battle with a chance of the Tigers leading. Depending on how the Trinity seniors react St. X could pull out a tight win, or the Rocks could just come out and dominate the second half.

This could be way off, but I think that is a likely course for the game.

Goodness gracious AT, you may want to talk to a proctologist about that stick problem you seem to have.

How about I tell you what you want to hear, will that ease things for you? St. X will dominate from beginning to end and unleash a passing game that will make Brohm's numbers from the 2002 title game paltry. Glaser will be named as national treasure with the victory and proceed to have his face added to Mount Rushmore along with a national holiday to commemorate the occasion.

That should perk you up old bean.

Quite young might I add. My only problem is T fans.

The 1st half is alwalys tightly contested. The last 5 meetings were all 1 score games at halftime. The only difference being: at the half T intends to turn it up, while X views it as a moral victory that the game is so close.

There are at least 2 unknown factors for Friday: The emotion of the game for the Tigers, and maybe more importantly, can X, with Walker playing the whole game, control the ball and the clock, keeping the T offense off the field, and forcing them to try to speed up tempo, hopefully unsuccessly.

Gaheafer (9-18 for 75) in the 1st meeting. Wright(22-29, 283). 18 attempts is enough to beat or pace with the rocks, its about the completion pct. And im almost positive they had 2 picks a piece.

They did, but X lost two fumbles as well.....that was a massive difference maker.

Trinity 56-24
No way they let us score 56.

I don't disagree with the first point but you can't win on emotion alone. On the second point Walker was pretty much contained before his injury in the first game. Now that X has started running a bone and throwing out of it some I would say the more important question is if T can stop a running game out of a formation that not many people use anymore. I also have to wonder aloud which special team will X try to run a fake out of. Correct me if I'm wrong but they've faked at least 1 kick in their last 3 games.

All this talk of X having an emotional edge is really quite funny. The ROCKS know what is at stake here and would like nothing more to end Glasers career with a big loss. T has played several team a lot better than X this year and did quite well. ROCKS will roll on.

I agree that X will have no emotional edge on Friday. The players know that the series is tied 36-36-2 and Trinity has never led the series. The players know that the state championship is on the line. The players know that this is Glaser's last game.

Three things that need to happen.... IMHO....

For X to win:

1) Balanced/creative offensive scheme that burns serious clock time AND scores TDs.

2) Win the turnover war by a 2:1 ratio.

3) Find a way to stop the T front four on defense and DD on offense.

For Trinty to win:

1) Solid kicking game - special teams play.

2) Hold St. X drives to 6 plays or less.

3) Keep the foot on the gas pedal.

Providing the stats b/c people don't think X passes enough.

X on defense has to find a way to mix up their coverages and blitzes. Just like everyone talkes about X being predictable on offense they can be just as predictable on defense too. They need to find a way to get presure on Wright and not let him have all day to find an open reciever. What drives me crazy with defenses in general is the play of secondaries. X CAN NOT let anyone behind them or it will be 6. Mix up the coverages and find a way to keep t offense on their toes.

Easier said than done, but a team that has consistently slowed down t offense are the Xavierans from Cincinnati....wouldn't hurt to check out that film. :thumb:

^ I really think our use of the screen game has hurt the ability to use cover 2 nearly as effectively, you almost HAVE to cover man on the outside, and that's where we have a serious advantage.

"Bingo".............and none of the above have worked prior for X in the past 5 meetings. The only downside I have seen this year in T's normal game is that the kicking game is definately off this year.

Believe me, I would love to see X pull this out, but all three items noted above HAVE TO work for them to make a game of it.

The last item to note, as I do expect a close first half.

THE TEAM THAT MAKES THE CORRECT ADJUSTMENTS AT HALF WILL WILL WIN THIS GAME
> I am not sure if X is capable of this.

Yeah, their screen game is tough to defend. The X defense has to be able to trust their reads and not try to make the hit/play. If it was me calling defense on the very first defensive play for the Tigers I would come with a corner blitz with a man free coverage. X can't let Quick and company intimidate them this game. Get up in them and disrupt their timing/route. Mix up the coverage from man free, 20 coverage, cover 2, and cover 3.

Talking all this stuff is firing me up!!! Is it Friday yet?!?!
