I know that sounds hilarious, but what I think he means is they have been playing together for a couple years and have more experience playing competitive bball. It makes a huge difference in just one year at that age.

 

And by the way, they are pretty good. They are not typical 2nd and 3rd graders that you are thinking about...trust me! I coach my son's second grade team and there's not one kid in the league that could sniff playing time on that team...except the one kid in the league that plays for them. He could score 100 a game if his coach let him!

 

Been there, done that and I've seen quite a few 2nd, 3rd, 4th.....grade "all stars" that parents and coaches think will be studs in years to come. More often than not, it never pans out - in rare cases it holds true, but they normally get passed up physically etc... I'm not thinking about "typical" 2nd and 3rd graders whatever that means, I'm talking about 7-9 year old "kids". I certainly hope no coach would allow a kid or team to score 100 points at that age - and I have my doubts it could be done (based on experience). I'll offer you this unsolicted piece of advice - enjoy watching your 2nd grade son play ball. It goes by way too fast and I'd like to have some of those innocent moments back that only youth can provide and I may not have appreciated at that time. And by the way, my kids played AAU/competitive ball from 3rd grade on into high school.

Keith has a second 4th grade team. Derek and I coach a third grade only gametime team that has had a very good first season only losses to an established Shannon Minor Viking team. IMO will have some very strong 4th and 3rd grade classes coming through in multiple sports.

 

Tommy Buten also coaches a 3/4 grade team of Highlands kids....or most of them are. They are an Omega team........

I have also seen them play and they are very good for their age. Shannon's son played for me a few years back. He is definately an agressive little booger...lol

Well if he played hoops for you, that is probably why he started his own team.:lol: On a more serious note, wasn't Shannon Minor involved in some type of basketball academy down at Town and Country through the Kings organization? Is that where these kids have come from?

I've seen Minor's team play... they are ok, nothing special IMO. Now, Jeff Sheppard's 3rd grade team... wow! He has them play up year round against high level 4th grade AAU teams and they compete. They would absolutely destroy Minor's team. And the best part is that Jeff's son is 2nd grade age and hands down the best little guy I've ever seen play.

His boy was on the team but didn't play much because he was a year younger and skill wise was behind the other boys.

Yes, Gametime 4th beat Sheppard's 3rd in the 4th grade tournament.. Two starters from Gametime 4th and one starter from Walton 4th are going to play for the Tarheels 3rd in the 3rd grade State AAU Tournament. I believe they can beat Sheppard's team in that tournament with the 3 new kids..
