But now you are talking substance of the enrollment. I'm talking size. People say Trinity is better because they have so many boys and that isn't the case. the reason why those boys are there may be what's different. No the number of them. Again, Highlands is a smaller school with less boys.

 

 

I'll pose a question GOINGFOR2 asked earlier. Do people think Lexington doesn't have talented football players? Dunbar is one of the biggest schools in the entire state and aren't most of the schools in Lexington 6A schools? The best two schools in Lexington are smaller than the rest. Enrollment size matters? Come again....

 

I understand your point. I would say substance of the enrollment matters more, but enrollment size still matters. If it did not matter, there would be no reason to classify schools. If Highlands, Bowling Green, Beechwood, NewCath, Mayfield, LexCath, Central, Trinity and X were all in the same class with current enrollments that I would say have quite a bit of substance, who would win the State Title year in and year out? I would say Trinity would win 85%, X would win 10% and Highlands would win 5% of the time. Why? Enrollment size.

There is no such SOLE DETERMINING FACTOR. But the poster wanted to know "Does size matter". Obviously it's yes.

I agree with you 100%.

In HS Football Size matters but it is not the main determining factor.

Coaching and $upport are more important than size.

Top teams all have quality coaching that keeps teams at the top of their classes regardless of current talent at the school.

-How many top teams start to slowly drop away after loss of great coach? Boyle Co hasn't been the same since Coach Smith left, Bell Co hasn't been as dominant since Coach Hilton left.

$upport matters, if coach is spending time fund raising to pay for new pads, shoes, helmets, workout gear etc...then he is not spending time working to make team better. Too many coaches main job seems to be fund raiser anymore not football coach, especially at lower tier programs. Top programs don't worry about these things due to the $upport they receive outside of just what the parents give each year.

The best football played in Lexington is Catholic. Who doesn't have to abide by district and is like Trinity and X by those rights.......SMH.

Tates Creek has the smallest enrollment in 6A. Should be a 5A by definition....

 

And with their 5A enrollment I can still name smaller schools who would defeat them annually.

You can't compete if you can't retain your athletes.

 

So Simon Kenton doesn't have athletes? A 6A school of that size doesn't have athletes? So then that must mean that the substance of your large enrollment that classifies you in 6A matters more than the fact that you are one of the 32 largest high schools in the state?

I did not say same enrollment numbers. I said same current enrollment meaning Trinity with 1400 and Highlands with 450. Enrollment size would matter.
