Already answered that question with a question. Where are they from?

Would you take 100 from Ft. Thomas over 1400 from McLean County?

All other things held equal, would you rather have 1400 boys to choose from or 100?

(Any other answer than 1400 or 100 is changing the subject)

But that is part of the whole question. And remember, I started this thread with a simple question. Does enrollment size matter? You can't pop off your own question which is changing the subject from what my initial question is. Size doesn't matter if the smaller group is better than the bigger group. The question then needs to be asked why is the smaller group better? But for kicks and giggles I'll say I'll take 1400 over 100. Now give me your reply so you can prove my point. :D

Enrollment does matter. There are a lot of things that go into having a successful program, but if we are specifically talking about enrollment, it is an advantage of having more to choose from. Enrollment is not near the only factor, but you said yourself, if everything else was held equal, you would rather have more students to be able to choose from.

And for the record I do like how you are trying to change the subject on the thread I started with a question that served its own purpose.

That is awesome.

If the size is the only info then sure, who wouldn't take 1400 over 100. Now add all of the other factors in from talent to coaching to revenue to tradition to boosters and then pick again.

Everyone who disagrees with me keeps saying 'enrollment' when my point is about 'enrollment size'. When those 100 from Ft. Thomas roll down to McLean County and beat that 1400 then my whole point is proven. Highlands proves my point yearly. The quality of the program is way more important than the number of people there is to choose from.

But we agree that it is an advantage to have more students to pick from.... That was my whole point. What do you mean by the difference between 'enrollment' and 'enrollment size'?

If it is an advantage then why are so many schools smaller than 6A schools that are better than the 6A schools. I've mentioned more than once that the top 5 schools of 4A could likely defeat #3-10 in the 6A poll. Yet enrollment size matters? Enrollment size is not the advantage people make it out to be. Otherwise our 6A schools would be a lot better than what they are. Smaller schools wouldn't beat them.

Enrollment is too broad of a word. Enrollment can be filled by open enrollment, tuition, etc. The 'enrollment' at Highlands has a tremendous football acumen considering their 'enrollment size' is borderline 3A/4A.

That is what I mean by enrollment and enrollment size. Two different things.

Thank you. What the cat is implying is that his kids are magically better from Ft Thomas then anywhere else.....he is saying that his 100 kids from Ft Thomas are better then 1400 kids to pick from elsewhere. Lol.

Your original post asks a simple question.. Does enrollment size matter. The answer is clear and obvious. The rest is semantics.

I cannot believe this has generated 9 pages of discussion. I am baffled as to how there can even be reasonable debate about this topic. Of course enrollment size matters in high school football. It matters a great deal. Several posters have pointed to Highlands as the example of why enrollment size does not matter. However, let's say that in 1959 when the KHSAA began having football championships the KHSAA decided to have just one class, instead of multiple classes. How many titles would Highlands have won from 1959 until the present if every KY prep football program competed for one title (like in basketball)? On a more recent note, Highlands has won 7 state titles since 2000. How many would Highlands have won from 2000 until the present if they were competing against the likes of Trinity, St. X and Male every one of those years? One? Two? None?

Napoleon famously said that "victory goes to the big battalions." While quality of the program matters a lot when looking at football success, when you have two strong football programs going head to head, the team from the larger school/community is going to have an advantage.

This is the exact point. How can a person saying that enrollment size doesn't matter but yet when comparing to Trinity and St. X says that "if they were the same size" they would be better. Lol.

Like I have said size matters when you play the top bigger schools such as T,X and the GCL..When you have kids with the same ability and coached well the bigger kids will more than likely prevail..It's pretty simple...

Ok, then to answer PP92's original question. Yes size matters, but size also doesn't guarantee your school of having a good football team. All it does is give you a bigger sample size to choose from. If your sample is loaded with avg players at best then you won't win most of the time. So yes Size matters in the ability to have more bodies to choose from but it does not mean success.
