Since we are talking years you have to consider both CCH and Highlands were in 5A in the recent past.

So two good teams in years past made it a good conference, but because those 2 schools are't 5A anymore then the conference can never be good? Didn't Conner just beat CCH?

 

You may be right, I haven't followed 5A a lot in the past. But to say just because those 2 schools are no longer 5A doesn't mean the teams that are 5A this year make the conference bad. I think Conner and Cooper both rank in the top 8 or so in the state at 5A as we speak.

Exactly what I was thinking. A Cov Cath team that is having just their 3rd winning season in 6 years, gets beat by 5A Conner, yet 4A in the East is considered strong. Not NKY, but the vaunted Johnsons from Johnsonville lost to a 3A Belfry team at home last night as well. Highlands is Highlands, but the rest in 4A east are just a shade above average in spite of perception.

It is borderline ridiculous to say school size/not having enough athletes is an issue for 6A schools. I see kids at Beechwood who as middle schoolers and even freshmen you would have said no way that kid ever can be any good in football. He just isn't an athlete. Yet by their senior year they are starting varsity. It takes work, creating a culture, getting kids to play and believe they can play. We have seen every 6A school in N. Ky. be competitive at the highest level. If they did it once, they can do it again. They need to find a way to build that program so it happens year after year. To do that you have to get some of those kids walking the halls out on the football field and buying in.

 

Name for me one successful NKy 6A program whose success was not dependent upon an single individual skill player that elevated the performance of the entire team? A player who upon departure, reduced the program to mediocrity? From Durham to Simpson to Elliot to Ferris.

Exactely what my point was. You can't go off of name alone which is what I think was happening when saying CCH and HHS made 5A great and because they aren't in 55A this year then 5A can't be good. Now i'm not saying Cooper or Conner will go to the finals or anything this year, but looking at their seasons this year so far they have held their own pretty nice. Cooper has beaten every 6A school they played this year, they are 7-1 in district play the last 2 years. Conner has just beat one of the so called powerhouses in NKY last night.

 

To say 5A is down this year in NKY is not true. Just because other classes may be down, doesn't mean all of them are.

 

Take a look at every NKY class and I would argue that there isn't anyone that can comfortably list 3 teams in the area that would beat Conner and Cooper this year.

I'll give you HHS, but I can't think of 2 others that would have a cake walk when it came to playing those 2 5A schools.

Heck Franklin Simpson ran all over the vaunted Highlands defense in the finals last year. This year I'd take Warren East, Lone Oak, or Collins to beat anyone out of the East not named Highlands.

Cooper is having a great year but they have not proved anything yet. No playoff wins in school history and they have beaten a bunch of bad 6A teams. Who have they beaten that is any good? South Oldham? Go deep in the playoffs and sustain some success on a yearly basis and i will be a believer.

Unlike Cov. Cath, Lex Cath, and Boyle who have all played strong schedules, I think Warren East is a bit of an unknown because of their schedule and Lone Oak as well.
