I said I didn't care if it falls under the definition of "racism" or not because it doesn't impact the argument. The argument by me and others is that the ONLY reason the sign was put there was because it is in a neighborhood that will vote Obama 95+% of the time. It's goal was to scare people. Is that a true definition of "racism?" Don't know. Don't care. Irrelevant to the argument.

It's always amazing how often we talk intent on here and everyone is convinced they're right UNTIL they see something that others say that bothers them in some sense.

 

Let me state the obvious so we can get it out of the way: I do NOT know who put up the billboard so , therefore, I cannot say with 100% confidence that I know what their intent was.

Just like the two brothers in Philly. I remember a lot of handwringing over those two and the evil ways of the Black Panthers for trying to scare whitey.

Most would agree that that area is uneducated. If they don't know the laws on voting and choose not to vote, it's just a few less uneducated votes we have.

 

Safe to assume there's at least one person that is not a minority in that neighborhood. Whoever put up the billboard is likely fine with that.

The inability and downright refusal of people to grasp the mindset of the inner city(minorities) is depressing. And then people wonder why racism is still alive and well today. When the oppressed try to express how things make them feel people get defensive and quit listening. Scratch that, people continue to turn a deaf ear to the ills of society. It doesn't matter if it is a few uneducated votes or if it's a miracle they are still alive. Truthfully if they are living in the inner city they probably are lucky to be alive. They probably are uneducated. They still have an American right to vote and they should be afforded that right to vote without harassment from powers that they recognize are greater than what they hold.

For the record, I haven't called anyone a racist in this thread. But, for most of you don't believe, or won't admit, race could possibly have an affect on society unless it is explicit racism. Yes, I think that is naive and also very convenient.

Never said you were a racist. I am saying that you are insensitive to the mindset of the people in the inner cities. Nowhere did I say their right to vote was revoked but it's plainly obvious these people feel they are victims of voter intimidation and being unfairly singled out. Very strong argument for voter ID. It would eliminate most corruption and billboards.
