I have to say as a former Fire Fighter and a childhood friend of one of the coaches involved that if the allegations of illegal players and continued violations are true then I'm dissappointed in the organization. A lot of good people have poured their heart and soul into the organization the least of which is the late Becky Alford to see it's association with the NKYFL come to an end over this. Winning can't be more important than integrity and more importantly the NFF provides often times the only male influence in some of the kids lives and the influence should be positive, teaching leasons of work ethic, team work , etc. It shouldn't be teaching lessons of short cutting and or circumventing the rules. I played on some great NFF teams and had some great coaches and I hate hearing this.

The FFs have a long and proud tradition. This is just a joke. It is a snapshot of what is going on in the community. I stated this in another thread, but the American Legion has a few knothole teams. Their rosters are mostly kids from Newport. Their coaches, not all but enough, have this same "win at all costs" mentality. Somebody needs to put the brakes on and develop the kids, from the ground up. There are some good people working hard in these organizations, but there aren't enough. It is tough to overcome bad parenting. It is even harder when coupled with the examples that these coaches set.

Becky Alford was a special lady in my books and for over 25 years I had the pleasure of working with her and knowing her and her family. Just like 2 humped camel I am upset that this has happened in Newport. I hope they get this worked out. JD

If the kids dont live in Newport but are playing on Newport's team, then the kids are breaking the rules.

No they were playing in their new league.

Having talked to some of the Red Devils folks and what I have heard around it seems that the suspension for all the teams was due more to the coaches not following the suspensions on their coaching privledges more so than the illegal player usage.

 

Now somebody mentioned the American Legion baseball teams and I have seen some messes with them in the past. Who coaches those teams now. Are they still in Knothole?

Not to highjack the thread, but it's hard to punish kids for actions of adults that should know better. Before anyone from the NKYFL lashes out at NFF, take a look in the mirror. There are issues with each team in the league. Been around that mess for years- coaches that use foul, degrading language to 2nd graders all the way to $ missing from the gate/concession stand.

Yep, I have seen the American Legion craziness firsthand. One of their coaches chest bumped our coach after a game, same guy who was ejected and told to go up on the hill in our first game. He stood at the top of the hill and yelled at the umpires up at Hilltop field in Newport. The parents were threatening our parents, it was a joke. I am all for giving these boys a chance but it all starts with the parents and coaches and the same group of kids/parents were supposedly part of the NFF.

 

My 5th grade basketball team even played many of those boys in a league over at Nothing but Net and we handled them but it seemed every time we would play them they would bring in a new couple kids. There is more to life than winning at Youth Football, nobody is going to care in 15 years and if they do then they dont have much of a life.

isn't someone supposed to be checking birth certificates and bio information at weight in? Are we saying that NFF 'added' players after the check in that were too old?
