The Danville loss didn't bother me. Surprised me but didn't bother me. I'll always root for Boyle but my kid graduated last year so I am not as emotionally attached to the games like I once was. Always a Rebel but not bothered. Just keeping it real. Boyle was outcoached and outlasted against Danville. Danville won the battle in the trenches that night. Danville won that game by not allowing Devonte to throw the ball anymore and pounding it down Boyle's throat. Keeping the ball a majority of the 3rd quarter helped also. Danville did what they needed to do to win the game and they did. Tip of the cap. And yes, Boyle will have to wait until next year to get revenge. That's the way it goes. I still think Boyle wins 6 of 10 against Danville.

 

Boyle didn't get dominated by LexCath's second string QB. Their inability to stop the LexCath running game did them in. The second string QB had one good pass and that was it. I'm not even certain he completed more than 7 passes. Their RBs did the heavy lifting.

 

Boyle has clicked off and on all season. When the Boyle County team that gave Highlands all they wanted for a half shows up for four quarters no one in 4A will beat them. Period.

After the Danville game is over, I'll pull for the Rebels, I picked them to beat Mercer and think they will handily. But I am Admiral Blue thru and thru and am a lot more emotionaly attached than I should be, its just the way I am wired. I grewup watching Danville, Played for them 4 years and will critisize lack of effort but defend them at the slightest sign of any negatives or challenging comments that are not true Admiral supporters.

 

 

I wouldn't expect anything less. I remember when there were more Danville fans just like you. Shoot, I remember when there were more Boyle fans just like that.

The only advantage that I see for Mercer in this game is the fact that Chris Pardue is now calling his own plays. This has been a

weakness for Boyle for the last few years. I think Boyle will win beause they are better in spite of this problem with their offensive

Thinking back on it, I guess the Rebels and Scotties didn't play from '83 to '87. That '87 game was the first time I recall Mercer beating Boyle in my memory.

 

What's also missing is the old Boyle-Harrodsburg rivalry in this comparison. From around '74 to '85 this was a very intense rivalry.

 

Boyle upsetting then #1 ranked Harrodsburg with a hook and lateral pass at the end of the game in '76. Then the Pioneers handing Ed Rall his worse loss ever (60-0) the next season. My class were freshmen that year and Harrodsburg never scored on us again in our careers. 36-0 (Frosh score after the varsity beat down), 17-0, 6-0 and 27-0.

I should have said when we played Harrodsburg Hig School.

I was at every Boyle - Mercer game from 1969 until 1987. First in black and gold, then in red. Hope the kids have fun tonight. I know they will play hard.

 

I got this from Marty Warren's article in October of 2004 from the Advocate Messenger when Robert Allen Yankey was inducted into the Boyle Hall of Fame.

 

Yankey: Yankey led the Rebels to a 4-1 record in 1970 before drowning in a farm pond on his family's farm. Yankey scored two touchdowns and passed for a two-point conversion in a 35-8 win over Mercer County in his final game.

 

During his senior season, Yankey, a quarterback-defensive back, rushed 44 times for 260 yards, completed 15 of 40 passes and also grabbed two interceptions for coach John Buchanan's team.

 

 

Before his death, Yankey led Boyle to a No. 10 ranking in the Associated Press poll.

I remember it well Rebel. Right before we left the school Rall put that 60-0 film on the board with a white poster board that had the score and made us watch it, especially the times Gus Parks ran in to the End Zone and slid on his knees holding the ball out and pointing. Alvis cooked his future that night.

 

Nothing stirred my blood like Harrodsburg. I remember my Senior Year when Ray or Lee ran in from about 25 yards or so to make it 27-0 and I looked one of their LB's in the eye and screamed: "Run it up, baby, run it up!" That 60-0 was forever etched in our psyche.
