Newport Catholic 49, Newport 0

 

The explosive ground attack for Newport Catholic was led by senior running back Dylan Hayes, who tallied 12 carries for 123 yards and three touchdowns.

Senior running back Mason Meyers punched in a pair of rushing touchdowns, and fellow senior running back Pete Collopy added a rushing touchdown of his own.

Senior quarterback Josh Cain had a solid game through the air for the Thoroughbreds, completing 7 of 10 passes for 114 yards, including a 64-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Dan Ruwe on the 1st play from scrimmage to kick off the scoring in the first quarter.

Newport senior running back Dominic Joseph led the team with 74 rushing yards on eight attempts.

So how many players dressed for Newport?

 

Holy Cross this week for NCC. That will be an interesting game...maybe. I still have doubts about the Holy Cross defense. Where are they playing that one - Ellis or at Scott?

 

Newport dressed 22, 6 or 7 out because of grades I'm told.

NewCath/ Holy Cross, Thursday night at Scott High School.

Short is a very nice player, but he can't win by himself against a disciplined defense. Joseph had to work hard. The Breds have a few nice wins, but not the depth to go 3+ rounds.
Who is going to beat them in the first 3 rounds? After thatI probably agree. But I wouldn't count them out. For a 2A school where do they lack depth? No one at that level plays 2 platoon.

Walton, Owen, possibly Carroll can. I have seen all these teams play and I think they all could.

None of those three will be with 28 (and most likely more points).

And yes ... I have seen all 3 of the above teams .. and have no idea what you have seen that makes you think that they could hang with NCC.

 

I am willing to listen ... but you are going to need some hardcore facts to back up that statement.

Walton and Owen both lost to Lloyd and we know how bad NewCath destroyed them, WV and Owen wouldn't stand a chance against the Breds. Carroll Co. lost to both WV and Owen and an average at best Bellevue, Sarge I'm sorry to say I'm not buying what you are selling.

My bad I was referring to Newport not NCC. NCC is on another level as I have stated in a previous thread.

I'm not exactly sure who you are talking about but neither of the Short brothers played for Newport this week. #66 for Newport was the best player on the field last Friday but he's a left tackle and as usual lineman don't get much recognition.
