Because in 2007 and 2008 ... Beechwood did not get to play you head to head.

Do you remember why? Because you got beat (and rest assured .. you would have gotten beat if you would have played Beechwood in 2007 or 2008 ... and .. in 2006).

 

Your logic speaks to only using the most recent results ... which is definitely true as of right now.

And hi, quickslick, my favorite BW poster. You are correct, our program had the talent in 07 and 08 but we had some "personal" issues and BW would have no doubt beaten us. But I always like to point out that yes if BW and MF played every year that BW would have won plenty of times but also I have pointed out that if MF was in 1A ball like they could have been, BW would not have as many titles as they do.

 

And again ... we are finally getting to the main issue.

You guys hate the fact that Beechwood was as successful as they were in the 90's.

You hate the fact that people still associate that with Beechwood ... and intend to let everyone know that you guys would have done better.

 

Well ... guess what ... you did beat them one time in the 90's in the championship game.

But ... lets go a little further .. you were not in Class A for only one year (it had to be at least 2) ... where were you?

I guarantee that the 'Wood was in the championship game during the other year you could have faced them.

 

What you fail to remember ... is that there may have been 1 time in the 90's stretch was Beechwood was favored to win the championship. Yet ... they beat teams that were supposed to be significantly better. I am not sure why you think you would have beat them then .... but right now ... you have no factual data that can prove that.

 

It comes down to the fact that you guys can't stand that Mayfield is not the first team out of everyone's mouth when it comes to Class A football.

 

That's great. I love it that you guys are that way. Please .. don't change ... because that is what makes Class A great.

Mayfield played 5 times in the 90's for state titles. 1-2 for 2A and 1-1 in 1A. I think playing half a decade for state titles is pretty decent.

Actually, I think that there being more attention for Bw is what makes it more fun for me. I work behind a desk atleast part of the day everyday and I use this board to take quick breaks from my work. The emotional rants by some (you being one Quick, though no offense meant) since the Cards have had Bw's number has been live entertainment and if its a slow day I can usually bring you or others out and get your motor going. Now at the end of the day it's all in good fun for me and I hope it is for you too as someday you will get the best of me and the Cards and get to turn the tables. I was very careful to not push any of your buttons after last years loss and left you guys alone until this season so I do hope you see I was considerate to high emotions while the wounds were fresh. Now at other times I also like to follow Bw becasue they are usually our chief opponet in the quest for a title.

I would be very interested to compare the handling of the posters on this site when the situations were reversed.

Your right I cant say from 91-99 we were always strong but I can say from 80-1999 we played for 9 state titles and were in 16 semifinals and when Mayfield was really good you were beating Pikeville and Murray(joke). I dont think your quality of competition was that stellar all those years.

Great thread ... I will end my part with this ... Mayfield is EXTREMELY respected (as are every opponent that the Red and White Tigers face). That will never change from this end. Both sets of fans are extremely intelligent and dedicated to their programs. That is a GREAT THING!

 

Right/wrong/indifferent .... our state is significantly better for having Class A programs like the ones mentioned (not just Beechwood, Mayfield, etc). Teams like Frankfort, Raceland, LCA, Louisville Holy Cross (and the many others that I am not mentioning) are constantly raising the bar for smaller schools in our state. That is something that all of us obviously take great pride in .... and that thought alone will allow me to walk away from this conversation with nothing but good feelings.
