Really?

I don't gamble, but I enjoy looking at betting lines. I don't understand this one.

Experts?

Smells like a sucker bet to me. Everyone loads up on the Bengals at home & Miami wins straight up...

Do you really think Miami is the better team, and on the road to boot?

Bengals have issues in the secondary, and Tannehill just threw for 400+ yards against an allegedly good defense, or at least one more respected than the Bengals' D. I suppose if Vegas considered PBS an actual home-field advantage, that might bump up to 6.

The game is a sellout and I think PBS is definitely home field advantage for the Gals. Plus, the Bengals have a couple DBs back this week so they should be decent.

No chance it gets close to 6. Probably wont move from 3. It started at 5.5 so a lot of ppl like the Dolphins here.

Simply put Vegas doesn't buy into any Bengals hype partly because of what you said about the D.

Miami could easily be 3-1, they lost to the Jets in OT only after missing 2 field goals that would have won the game for them and they lost in OT to the Cardinals last week in a game where they outplayed the Cardinals. They drilled Oakland though they are terrible. This has the makings for a great one and Miami is due for the ball to bounce their way. I think the line is about right

I am not a gambler either so I am sure someone will jump in and correct me if I am wrong. The betting lines in games are not predictions of who will win and by how much, although it usually ends up close to that. Betting lines are set in an effort to split the betting money so it is more about public opinion than an actual prediction of the game result. In other words, the football expert may think the Bengals are going to win by 8. But he also thinks the majority of the public believes it will be a very close game, maybe a one point win for the Bengals. Will he set the line at 8? No, because the money would be way too lopsided in favor of Miami. So even though he feels strongly Cincinnati will win by 8, he will set the line at 3 to split the money. Now, gamblers, punch away. Where am I wrong?

There are always a few lines that seem to not make sense each week. You also have a winless team' date=' the Saints, laying 3 1/2, to a 3-1 Chargers team.[/quote']

Looks kind of sensible now ... :D
