October 9, 201213 yr So what's your solution then? Making it easier on the grossly rich ain't working. I'm no economist, but there's gotta be something better than the current situation. Maybe if those "job creators" would create some freaking jobs instead of shipping their money and jobs overseas I'd be a bit more sympathetic to the "pain" the uber-wealthy are feeling. Instead, they're more interested in slamming the door behind them on the American dream. Whatever happened to shared sacrifice?

October 9, 201213 yr I'm a mechanic at Corning Incorporated in Harrodsburg, Ky. I also was elected Union President for Steelworkers Local 1016T in April of this year and will serve through the next election in 2015. I receive a small salary(165.00 a month) for that also. I receive a 3% raise yearly, my healthcare rises every year but it is great healthcare as my entire family is covered along with dental and vision care also. I don't care to pay for it. It's worth it. My yearly take has improved each of the last four years and this year is easily going to be a career high for me. Corning had a huge layoff in 2008. 80 union employees were laid off and 40 company people were let go(pays to be in a union). Over 70 of the union employees returned once the business got better in the following two years. We are now running full strength right now with all of our glass tanks producing glass. Just had 9 new hires start today. I also moderate on www.bluegrasspreps.com on the side. I do that for free because I love the website and enjoy being able to contribute in many different ways. My life is wayyyyy better than what it was four years ago. Not even close. What did you think I did since you had an idea of what I do? A member of a union! October 9, 201213 yr Am I better off than 4 years ago? Hard to say. I'm not overly concerned with that. I am more concerned about 4 kids all recently out of school. Two in college, with no gov't assistance, and two trying to make their way in the working world. I look back at my circumstances when I was their age. I was definetly better off back in the mid 80's than they are today.

Grossly rich to me are the people making tens of millions of dollars a year, like the Welches of the world. McMansions are the $250K homes you see in the subdivisions that have sprang up in the days of urban sprawl, cookie-cutter new homes that look exactly like the one next to them. Kind of like all of Boone County.
October 9, 201213 yr Jim, in all honesty I feel sorry for you. It must be sad living so angry. Don't feel sorry for me, because I don't. Besides, it's kind of patronizing. Instead, do things to make it to where folks like me have a chance to better themselves through things such as regular raises, etc. I'm rapidly losing ground -- all the while having more work added to my already full plate -- with no end to it in sight. All to help protect the bonuses of already well-off people I've never even met. I'm fairly happy despite all that. I have my friends, music and other activities that help keep me sane and not dwelling on how I have every right to be just as angry as those whacked-out Tea Party-types. You just don't like it because I'm willing to point the finger in the right direction.
